Hi All,
Recently I bought a Dell Inspiron 1520 Notebook and it has come with OS windows Vista. I want to install Windows 2003 Server in this Note book. When I am trying to install Windows 2003 server, getting a message that No Hard Drive is available in the system. This note book has 160GB hard drive and windows Vista is working fine.
How to Install Windows 2003 Server in This Notebook?
After installing Windows 2003 Server from where I can get the Mother board, Display, Sound Card, Blue Tooth, LAN and Web Cam Drivers?
Could you please advice?
Thanks,
ZSRK.

All I can say is, if you are asking for information on how to install Win2k3 on your new 1520 it's obviously pirated...
-
You would need to provide the SATA drivers for Windows Server 2003 during the installation for it to detect the hard drive.... Or alternatively you can disable AHCI from the BIOS and install Windows Server and then load the drivers for it into Windows and enable back AHCI from the BIOS....
-
Thanks Ash,
Could you please help to get the Internal Modem Drivers, Ethernet Drivers, Intel Chipset Drivers, Webcam Drivers and Audio Drivers.
Thanks,
ZSRK. -
I believe the XP drivers would work properly with 2003 Server as well....
You can find them here at the DELL website

Why would you want to install a Server OS on a Laptop?
-
That does not work, you'll crap up your Windows Installation. Once you install Windows, you cannot change your HDD operation mode at all. Again, if you are asking for information on how to install Win2k3 on your new 1520 it's obviously pirated...
-
why would you think that the operating system has to be pirated? i have a copy of it and many others such as exchange server etc all from msdnaa. dont jump to such conclusions!
-
The HDD mode of operation can be changed anytime and has nothing to do with windows.... It is just like switching from Ultra ATA 66 to Ultra ATA 100 or Ultra ATA 133....
-
Have you thought just run 2003 server in vmware if you look to learn it problay better then run as main os have 2003 server in vmware and it work great also in inotek virtaul box

If you receive a copy of Win2k3 from MSDNAA you must be in a qualifying program to apply, being Computer Science/Information Technology programs. If you are going to school for administration of Win2k3 machines, you obviously know how to set it up yourself...and don't need to ask how to <_<
O RLY?
Common problems switching to AHCI under Windows
- Enabling AHCI in a system BIOS with Windows Vista already installed will result in a BSoD if SATA has been running in IDE mode during Vista's installation.

Why do you keep saying that its pirated
?? You can always buy it if you have a load of money or get it
LEAGALLY through several other channels for a much reasonable price like MSDN Academic Alliance as
nizzy1115 said.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
The HDD mode CAN be changed anytime, but you've got to load the correct drivers (post installation) before switching from ATA to AHCI to avoid a BSoD. Did a post windows installation ATA > AHCI switch on my D830 and everything worked fine. -

ummm every university i know of will give you the entire library of software if you sign up for a basic comp sci 1 class...does not have to do anything with your major. you could be an art major, but took basic c++ and you will get all these softwares. Your knowledge doesnt have to include the subject matter.
Also, microsoft gave 180 day trials of windows 2003 server to anyone who wants to download it. he could be in kintergarden and just be asking how to do it. you dont know! so stop accusing fellow members of the forum of theft! -
Well then they are violating the terms and conditions, and they are also aren't reading what they are signing. The university/college is obligated to only share MSDN AA software with related majors, and it even says that on the license agreement you need to sign before obtaining the software. True, it could be a trial...but I highly doubt it - I just don't like promoting piracy, and IMO this is in 98% likelihood pirated...

Has anyone managed to install Server 2003 on their Dell 1520/1720?
Everytime I press F6 to load the new driver it then goes through and asks me to put the driver disk in the "A" drive, which I do, then I select the correct driver and it continues to the point where it asks where you want to install windows. I select the C drive and it continues a bit longer and then asks me to put a disk named "Intel Matrix storage controller driver" in "A".
I tried renaming the floppy disk to this but it wont take that many characters.
Any ideas?

DoubleBlack, how in the hell are you going to learn about administrating Windows Server 2003 if you do not initially install it? That is the first thing you do in a systems administration course, so how could you possibly know how to do this?
-
Well most people in an administrator course wouldnt install it on a laptop, but instead set up a cheap vanilla box to install it on. If you say, well its my only computer is my laptop, well then installing a server os on it doesnt do much good as the whole point of a server is to have other computers connect to it!
-
He may ONLY have a laptop.
Personally I'd fire up Vmware Server and install it into that (VMware's a free download and easy to use). Will save a whole lot of hassle, you can snapshot and if you have the disk space just copy the whole install into date/time-stamped folders to rollback to.
+ you won't have any driver issues this way
..... me I go for the easy life....

I am trying the same on an Inspiron 1505E
missing essential Drivers, please let me know if you have better luck with missing drivers.
Thanks,
