My Dell Studio XPS 16 (core i7 model) was ordered april 6th. The estimated delivery date was originally 4/22/10 but yesterday I logged on to see my status and it said that my laptop was "In Production" and that the NEW estimated date of delivery is 4/14/10....that means they changed my EDD to 8 days before the ORIGINAL date. Well, the 14th is in 3 days...and my laptop is still "in production" so did dell make an error on the site? If not, does that mean that it only takes 2 or 3 days for things to get delivered?

    thanks for the insight fellas

My guess would be it's already shipped and they just haven't updated the status from production to shipping.

Never had dell move UP a date and the under deliver (that would be quite counter intuitive).

thanks merlin. As it were I just checked the website again (I'm not going to lie, I've been checking it every hour since I ordered :D) and they have updated it and placed a shipping tracking code. I'm ridiculously excited now.

I also ordered an SXPS 16, just I did it on the 7th of April. My original deliver date was estimated to be the 27th, but it's already been with FedEx for a day (got the tracking number and I'm following it around) and should be delivered on the 19th. Needless to say I am VERY happy!

It's nice when they ship ahead of the ESD/EDD :) Grat's!!

They are usually overestimated to protect Dell from any potential delays during production (ie..back orders/part delays), etc :)

Monday is the 19th...Now, you just have to survive thru the weekend! :p XD

Ya, I'm secretly hoping it will still arrive yet this afternoon, but more than likely I'll be stuck just dreaming of my new laptop this weekend. Still, it's a lot better than the original estimated delivery date, so I can't be too sad I suppose :p

The other side of my story is that originally on April the 1st, I had ordered a Studio 15 laptop that wasn't estimated to be delivered until May the 4th! After a few days of this nagging feeling (I wasn't happy with the video card in it and a few other things), I called up Dell and changed over my order to the Studio XPS 1645 I'm getting now. The XPS 16 delivery date of the 27th was already big improvement over the Studio 15's date, and now it's even better!

I'm very happy with it so far. One hiccup has been that I've experienced freeze-ups/crashes when playing fullscreen videos in Flash (ie. Youtube and Hulu), but it seems to be a driver problem. I'm at work right now (though still using my new laptop :D ), so I can't really test it out, but I don't mind playing with drivers and fooling around with my computers, so as annoying as it is, I'm not too fussed about it.

If you've read my other posts though, you'll probably know how much I love this laptop though. Really nice bit of hardware!
