I find it odd that I called three times today and my laptop moved thorugh three different stages. it was at production building this morning and then it moved to kitting (which i thought was odd cuz it was one step backwards) and then it moved to testing stage just now. are these stages accurate or am i going to get like a ten day testing time.

"Your parents don't love you
so it evens out"
LOL -
it moves through these processes pretty quickly once it is released from pre-production. It might take a few days to box though.
-
Actually, mine has been in the building stage for the past 2 days; I wouldn't say it's exactly fast.
-
I guess it also depends on the laptop :-(
-
what is pre production just getting all the materials togather for it?
-
Yes sir.... sometimes the longest process for some notebooks.
-
Mine went through pre-production and all the way to boxing in 1 day.
-
... and that happens too. LOL
-
mine has been in production for almost 2 weeks now....
-
Wow really Liquid? Did you try calling them up?
-
Remember... in production also includes pre-production.
-
What's pre-production do? Just getting the parts?
-
Yes... unfortunately.
-
That sucks.

I ordered my 1520 on Monday the 9th. Since Tuesday the 10th it's been "In Production in the Build Stage." I called today to see if it could be expedited and the customer service agent said that the WSXGA+ screen is backordered. That's the one with the 1680x1050 native resolution. I told her that it does not say that item will delay my ship date and it didn't say it when I ordered or anytime since then either. I also asked her that if it is in the "Build Stage" shouldn't that mean that they have all the parts? She just reiterated that the screen was backordered and it couldn't be expedited because of that. Can anyone make sense out of that? Somehow the info I have been getting just doesn't seem to be completely accurate.
-
no no, pre-production lasted about a day, by the 30th it was in production.
As far as calling, i don't have to they call me, I have been trying to get a laptop since May 14th. I have my own case manager that calls me with updates. This last time I talked to her she said the hold up was because of the color I chose, Sunshine Yellow, apparently they are having issues getting it in or something. So I sent her an email yesterday asking if I could just change it to Spring Green, would I have to completely reorder. No word yet. -
I've been on Pre-Production for about a week with the Vostro :/
-
Dell has seriously got to work on their new release strategies. This is absolutely horrible that they don't have this stuff in. What makes me especially mad is that I don't see anyone else with the yellow color, so why didn't they have a whole damn stack of yellow backs sitting there ready to be slapped on, are least let me know that they don't have it when I ordered so I could have chosen green, damn. I really wish they would have had orange, but oh well.
-
I have a feeling they just order the parts when they're needed; waiting a month OR MORE is ridiculous.
-
I think that what they do is go ahead and order the parts they know are going to sell well, the black, blue, red, maybe green. Brown, white and yellow I bet are getting delayed. maybe not brown. but the other parts, like the vid cards, order ahead, procs go across all the lines so no need for a shortage there. Monitors is hard to say. I ordered one with low res in the interest of my eyes suck, and gaming should be better as I knew that any laptop gpu would not push 1680 very well, as well as the 1440 res it's just not worth it to me. I hope I am right, I know many will argue with me, but that's just how i feel. I have a decent desktop at home with a 21" monitor and still run my games at 1024 *768. But I agree with you, waiting over a month for a laptop is ridiculous and the fact that I have been waiting officially two months as of tomorrow is outrageous.
-
Did you threaten to cancel your order if you don't get it within two weeks?
-
no it wouldn't do any good, they already have it on expedite, and next day shipping. And I can't even touch the price i got from anyone else for the stuff I have in it.
-
I'm on my 3rd laptop order. Each time it goes past about 10 days in production and a better deal comes along I cancel and reorder. Actually this is really my 4th since I had placed an order for a 1405 back on June 1st which wound up backordered for several weeks. I eventually cancelled and ordered a 1420. Also FYI we were not informed of the backorder status until the estimated ship date arrived, the order remained "in production" the entire time.
Nothing is "accurate" until you actually get a tracking number. I would also guess that they only order the very minimum required to keep up with the anticipated orders. I'm sure they would be losing money if they had any significant inventory sitting around. -
**** just sucks. I don't understand how -being one of the first here atleast- being one of the first to order a Vostros, about two hours after they were available, it takes a month to ship it out.
-
See I agree with that, they would only order minimum for ANTICIPATED sales. Nothing more, but often less....lol MUCH LESS.
With current coupon deals, I have a better deal with my current order, the free 2 gigs doesn't do me any good as I have already ordered and received 2 gigs of ram from newegg. See, now that's a company that knows how to run things, fast, efficient, and customer friendly service. Dell could take some lessons from Newegg.com. -
because they released them without actually having the product in is about the only thing I can think of. But definitely keep your eye out for other deals in the mean time, could save you some big bucks. Also it may behoove you to call and complain about the recent $50 savings on the line and see if they will credit you.
-
Mine has been in production for 8 days now, and I even picked the screen that wouldn't cause a delay.
-
When I ordered mine nothing was going to cause a delay according to the site. But that was 2 days after the release. Now it seems everything is delaying it...
-
its cheaper for dell to order less, and lose customers, than it is for them to order more, and have too much inventory to hold.
id be willing to guess 50% of people that cancel because of delays actually reorder once they see what other options cost in time/money. -
true dat, true dat...lol
How accurate are the stages of built?
