Well, I got my E1705 laptop for 4 days now, and I have to say I'm very impressed :) , except for the fact that I am getting annoyed with the light leak more and more :(

I've basically looked through almost all the posts on light leaks on this forum and others through the past 6 months, and I'm not too sure if I want to replace my screen from reading some of the horrid comments about having worser replacements.

So my question is: how bad is this light leak-is this minimal, average, or excessive, and is it worth the hassle of getting a replacement?

I have the following WUXGA True Life LCD according to dell's site:
CF176 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 17, Wide Ultra Extended Graphics Array, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC., GLARE WIDE VIEWING ANGLE, SAMSUNG

and I have the following cable:
RG688 ASSEMBLY, CABLE, COAXIAL, LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 17, ZANZIBAR/RIKERS/SUVA

2 of the shots are normal viewing angle (ie. what one would usually see) - one with lighting, one in total darkness and zoomed in slightly

2 shots are from a high angle

in either case, there's evidence of light leaking from the bottom and sides, but it's the bottom one that is noticeable, the side ones are too weak to affect anything. yes, i even notice the bottom leak when windows is loading on a bright sunny day

When it comes to light leakage, as long as you are happy with the screen then that is all that matters. Generally you are only going to notice it when it is a dark room or when you are booting up.

If it bothers you, then send it back. You'll have a 50/50 shot at the next one being as bad or worse.

Alright, it looks like I'm going to keep it then. It's just too bad, the laptop is great otherwise - it should have a great screen to go along with it.

    Thanks guys and gals.
