I just had a look at the review on XPS M1210 at dell.com, someone said 1g RAM is not enough to handle win vista smoothly.

Did you upgrade to 2G? If you didn't, how's your computer working?

    Thanks in advance.

if your going to buy a system its cheaper to order ram after you buy the system and put it in yourself.

    I use 2gb and vista runs smoothly. I don't know about 1gb, but I noticed a difference between XP 1gb and 2gp.

Many say/suggest at least 1.5gb RAM. It's just preference really. Do you mind waiting that extra few seconds for something to load?

2gb is pretty much the standard with Vista.

My Inspiron 6400 is happily running Vista with 1GB of RAM (the full specs are in my signature).

Everything seems to be running smoothly, and I've not switched off any of the eye candy. It's true that Vista is ravenous when it comes to RAM: around 60% is in use on startup, it's currently at 78% with Thunderbird, a few Firefox windows plus McAfee antivirus running, and I have seen it at 90% when dealing with digital photos. However, it has never felt slow and I haven't regretted not upgrading to 2GB when I bought my notebook. At some time in the future, I'll probably upgrade the RAM myself, but for now I am more than satisfied with the performance.

    Hope this helps!

If you're planning on doing anything other than simple movie watching, listening to music or office-related tasks, I recommend upgrading to 2gigs.

Buy with 1GB (1DIMM) configuration, then you can easily upgrade it later if you feel the need. That is the cheapest way to get 2GBs. Don’t buy more ram from DELL.

1GB is enough to run Vista, but 2GB is highly recommended.

What??!? Just buy your RAM at newegg.com -- it's around $35 per 1 GB module.

You notice the ram is up to 667 mhz only and the BUS for laptop is now 800 mhz and the desktop is at 1000 mzh + ?

Only reason why you would need more than 2 GB is when you run VMWare, at least for me.

Even with 2 gigs of ram, and no eye candy, It seems Vista hangs alot for me. Never used to do this in XP.

1GB module RAM is getting cheaper now as 2GB module RAM already available in the market. In Singapore, 1 GB RAM is selling at about USD32 and 2GB RAM is about USD116.
For those using VMware or Virtual PC, I recommend 2GB and above for winxp. As for Vista, you really need at least 2GB.

I bought the laptop with 1GB and ran XP on that, upgraded to 2GB a month or so after putting Vista ultimate on it. I could still work OK in Vista mind you, but the software I sell/supprt really needs 2GB for proper demo'ing. As a side note, a lot of folk look at the task manager and think Vista is a resource hog with RAM, but remember Vista uses a very different memory caching scheme than XP did. Yes, it DOES use more RAM than XP did, but it's not as big a difference as a lot of epople make it out to be.

Just ordered my D830 with the lowest I could get (1GB) and immediately ordered a 2 GB "kit" from Crucial for $87. I was going to just buy one 1 GB stick but a matching set in dual channel will make me mo happy.
