I've heard many people say they had to turn their LED brightness down a notch because of how bright the screen is... I've got mine at max brightness and feel like I could definitely go higher. Do they vary, or is there something wrong?

I've got the Toshiba screen and its whites are perfect, but don't 'hurt my eyes'... and it doesn't really seem brighter than the 19" NEC glossy screen I have attached to my desktop. Not sure what to think?

Ah... right. Thanks, I tried searching for something like that but search is somewhat non functional right now lol.

OK, are these grounds to ask for a replacement then? i.e. are the screens *supposed* to be much brighter?

Can I have your screen please.
Dell has yet to send me a laptop where the whites aren't "off" --
The very yellowish screen in the 1520 I sent back.
The slightly yellowish screen in the 1720 I decided to keep.
The very dim brownish-yellow screen I had replaced in the refurbished M1710.
The yellowish replacement screen for the M1710.
And last but not least, the greenish-yellowish Toshiba LED screen in my new M1330, which I'm afraid is going to have to go, either with or without the rest of the laptop. I've had it with these off-color screens. I see nice whites on laptop screens in Best Buy so I know they exist.

    Oh no! That's horrible.

That's actually why I was really confused, coz most of the time perfectly white screens have gone hand in hand with being properly bright. But then I was really starting to wonder, and wasn't sure whether there was actually something wrong with mine - and I definitely don't want to create a fuss about it unless it actually *is* supposed to be much brighter than it actually is because the colours are wonderful.

Your story is really unfortunate though! I do hope you get something sorted out...

I would like to know to about how bright the LED screen compares to CCFL. My screen is brighter than my friend Sony Vaio but not that much like 3-5% at most. By the way, both of us have WXGA screen.

I never seen LED in person. Everyone seems to rave about the screen, but I think it is subjective.

Well, my Toshiba replacement that I got today seems a bit brighter than the CMO screen I had before. Not by a lot though, and I'm probably lying to myself. A tad sharper too.

The only time the brightness ever "hurts" my eyes, is the first thing in the morning at uni when I have the curtains closed and forgot to set the power settings to a low brightness so when I open the laptop when I wake up, I'm not in the receiving end of occular rape.
