Ok so my only option at time of purchase was the Dell WiFi card or the Intel 5100 N Card which seems do so a nice job. The 5300 is the same card but with an Extra internal antenna which does not do much.

I was curious to see how I can add some kind of extrnal wifi antenna to my Studio 1737.

Like a cantenna or just something outside the laptop that I can maybe hang out the Window.

make sure you are close to the router, move the router to a more central place in the house (if possible) do not sit in rooms with supporting walls blocking the router.

I purchased a cheap external magnet mount antenna for my router, and placed it up high, this extended my range by about 4 times the distance.
