I contacted Dell about my E1505 not being able to fire up an external monitor.

They offered to send a tech out. So, I threw in the part about my DVD burner being all fussy and burning only coasters in 6 attempts. (I know we talked about media being the problem, but, I don't care, I buy name media, I expect it to work. These same DVDs burn with no issues on my desktop).

Anyhow, tech said to contact customer and get an exchange since it's less than 21 days old.

I contacted customer and of course, they told me I would have to contact tech.

So, far, I've been very good. I was like "ok, thanks" and not "grrr."

I then asked, so, would I get a new laptop or a refurb. Customer said refurb. Well, no, that really won't do. I bought a new laptop and the VGA port pooped out in a week (which is kinda weird) and the DVD burner throws a hissy fit when I ask it to burn a DVD.

How can I play this into a "new" not refurb?

Also, the last time, this happened, Dell sent me a laptop with less specs than the one the lost in shipping. I'm not even sure at this point why I am still with Dell, but that's another issue.

I'd rather them fix this laptop than send me a refurb.

Should I just push for a lemon based total refund? It's not really a lemon, but, in the interest of playing hardball, plus I have a history with these clowns.

If your laptop is less than 3 weeks old, you can always return the one you have and buy new one....

I may have to go that route. 10 hours and 3 chat sessions later and I'm still at square one.

They wont send you a refurb if it is under the 21 days. I had an exchange too which was under the 21 days and they sent me a brand new system

Yeah. New (not refurb) laptop coming. :(

I'm really kinda bummed. I had tried really hard to put my past experiences with Dell behind me, and for the most part, I'm really impressed with my E1505.

They have computers and analysts. Sure they see the types of failures they are having. My Inspiron 4000 had garbled video on startup. My Inspiron 5150 just shut down if you touched it, and now my Inspiron E1505 won't send VGA out and has a clicky DVD drive.

I mean, really. That is pretty weak.
