    Hello NBR,

I just got my dell E1705 with the WUXGA screen and was trying to find out who manufactured my screen. I have heard that the LG screens are the best. I would like to know if I have this screen also. Thanks in advance for your replies.

This is how I did it.
Control panel - System - Device Manager - monitor - plug and play - property - detail
It should say the product id for your screen, I am not sure which is LG though.

    Hi,

how can I see the manufacterer from this ID? Mine says something like DISPLAY/LPL00.....
In my receipt, I can't find any hint which manufacterer it is. It just says that it's a WXGA screen...

buildsheet isn't always correct. mine says Samsung (crap!), but my LCD is an Sharp (denoted with "SHP13C1") (woo-hoo!). sheet also said i had a Samsung HD (yeah!), but it's a Hitachi (meh, okay, i guess).

can't say whether the LG is the best, but ANYTHING is better than those Samsung LCDs. returned my first notebook a week after because the screen was brutal.

Am I supposed to have a build sheet? because it didn't come with the laptop. When I looked under Device Manager, it just says PnP Monitor. I even tried to see what the hardware id was and nothing :( . If there is anyone who knows how to check which monitor comes with their dell, please help. Thanks.

In Device Manager, double-click Plug and Play Monitor, go to Details tab, select Hardware Ids.

    Look up on Google.

    LPL0000 = LG Phillips

Both powerstrip and everest can show you your LCD's device ID.

I prefer everest since it can tell you much more about the whole system, including the manufacturers of your memory, harddrive, LCD, CPU, Motherboard, BIOS type etc.

Google for "Everest Ultimate Beta" to find a download

I have a samsung screen thats just perfect.
I heard(dont know how true), the easiest way to test is,
    1. There are 7 levels of brightness
    2. If the brightness changes for all the steps then its a samsung screen
if it doesn't change from level2 to level3,then its a LG.
Can anybody using LG confirm this?
Not sure how to identify the other screens. I guess a software is the only way.

    Hi!

On my LG WXGA screen, the brightness changes for all steps, but at the lowest 3 or 4 steps, the difference is much smaller than for the brightest levels.

Hmm. My E1705 with LG-Phillips screen has 8 levels of brightness, and there's noticable change on all level changes.

In Windows Mobility Center it shows:

    12% - 24% - 36% - 48% - 60% - 72% - 84% - 100%
