...components-wise. I'm specifically referring to the sound card, ATI X1400 GPU, wireless adapter, etc. I'll be looking to install the 64 bit version, and am worried about driver-related horror stories. Should I be?

Well, I can only speak of the 32 bit version.

Bottom line, everything worked post-install. Only thing I needed to download was the driver for the touchpad.

64bit...dunno...so probably a useless post for ya, eh? ;)

Well, it was better than nothing I guess! But yeah, 64 bit user opinions would probably be slightly more relevant...

Sorry i dont have vista but i have read around that most drivers for the I6400 come preinstalled except for the RICOH sd card reader... and it seems that the XP drivers from Lenovo work w/ vista.

Your best bet is to wait about 6 months, stick with XP on critical machines until the OS matures a bit. Do you really need a 64 bit OS? If your critical apps are 32-bit, all you will be doing is slowing yourself down a little, plus the risk of compatibility issues. The chief benefit of a 64 OS is large memory capacity and addressing. The 6400 can only support HALF of the 32 bit max, so unless you have an app that you can only run in 64 bit, you would be best suited with a 32 bit OS.
