    Hi, I know the new processors are said to be "running" cooler than the previous platform, even with the higher processing power. My question is simple; for those of you that have the new processor in the M1330 especially, do the new processors actually feel cooler, ie. the machine feels cooler to the touch? Much thanks, Yasmine

    i don't think it's cooler to the touch. my friend got a penyrn for his Dell Inspiron (pretty sure it was aftermarket) and I think touching both our laptops, I can't tell a difference that is very defined. Although, to be fair, I overclock my graphics card up the wazoo and I still can't feel it getting too hot. I think Dell's new laptops are pretty good with heat dissipation. Although, I felt that his computer was faster than mine with Itunes Conversion (converting music to Mp3s), which is kinda cool.

    it is not at all cooler , and it is not at all faster than the T7500 or T7700.

    I think the T7500 , considering its current bargain price, is the best buy.

    see all tests provided by many many sites , even the T9300 did not perform much better than the T7500.

    Here is the latest test as far as I know.

    If you want to get Penryn wait a bit longer and get one of the newer generation Penryns on Montevina plat form.

    An expensive Penryn on Santa rosa is not worth the bill, seriously.

    BTW, my company's computer is powered by the T8100 and I feel it is slower than my own computer in my office powered by the T7500.

    And current Penryns have 800FSB speed , but new generation Penryns have 1066 FSB.

    @lappyforphotoshop

    How much did the laptop cost you with T8100. I asked Dell and they said they don't offer this processor. Could you post your configuration

    Also did you do an Benchmark testing and check your heat readings

    Thanks in advance

    No.

    It is going to take at least a few years before all our electronic devices run cooler to an extent that no heat is felt. Speed depends on a lot of things. How many applications and services are running, the amount of memory you have and so on. Penryn processor alone can't do much.

    You said it all. Penryn processors are best experienced on Montevina platform. Till then both performance and costwise, it is better to stick with a merom processor on Santa Rosa platform.

    The T7500 is 2.2GHz and 4mb L2 cache vs T8100 at 2.1GHz and 3mb L2 cache. The T7500 should be faster.

    How long would you guess is a "bit longer?" I am looking to get an XPS1530 for college in the fall (I need the laptop by June 9). Do you think that the new platform will be available in the 1530 before then?

    That's hit or miss... I would order mid-April just in case you get a dreaded Samsung screen and have to send it back. If you're feeling lucky - early May. The new platform should be available around that time but it's anybody's guess as to when Dell will implement it - they'll make that decision based on their inventory in a few months.
