I opted not to get the Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card for my m1530 because it seemed I could get better prices elsewhere and I don't really seem to need it. My question is if in the future it does become the standard would I be able to replace the one in my laptop and if I do would it void my warranty or would it only void it if I broke my laptop?

I believe yes you should be able to replace it. I was searching for accessories on the Dell website and noticed they sell the following:
Intel PRO/Wireless 1390, 802.11a/g Mini Card (54Mbps) Customer Installed
Since its states to be customer install I figure that its "do-able". Whether it does anything to your warranty I unfortunately have no idea

Its as easy as changing ram. Very easy. Oh and it wont void your warranty, they just will not cover the card itself if it dies.

Because it was not part of the system upon purchase.
If you made cars, would your warranties cover the custom rims and tires and body kits people add to the car later on? No..
Upgrading network cards is as easy as ram, if not easier. On the 1520 it's two screws and a cable...
How diffucult would it be to replace the network card?
