Well I just recently got my dell inspiron 1520 and I look at my screen and can not really tell if it is grainy or not. (I'm not a screen expert) Beyond that I dont really have another computer to compare it to except my old dell desktop and it looks a tad better. I look at the white bg and can't tell if it is grain or not. I have a 1400*900 SEC3157. So I'm unsure if I should try to get an LG monitor everyone is talking about. Is it worth the hassle? I did go out to best buy and saw an HP white bg and it does look better but I looked at other brand notebooks and noticed that my dell had a slightly better white bg.

    Seriously...

If the screen is fine to you why blow smoke when there is no fire?

You can search these forums for more information on how to detect gaininess than you can ever desire, with pictures, but you shouldn't going nuts over a problem that is non-existent to you...

If you take the perfectionist stance of hunting down any and every issue, even those that don't directly affect you, you'll never be happy with anything...

And for what it is worth, the consensus is the problem is with AUO screens and if you send it in you can't be sure what you'll get. So you could pester Dell and get a screen DOWNGRADE (in quality) since you have a Samsung screen...

How do you check graininess. Look at your screen - it's VERY noticeable. If it's not apparent right away, then you don't have it.

Alternatively you can place your screen flat.. pour some olive oil all over it, and then smother it with some sand. That'll produce the same effect of a grainy screen.

Wow people, just WOW. This screen mass hysteria sure is getting ridiculous.
Sure, call Dell, get a replacement screen, send it back for a replacement, do whatever you want. Fix something that is not broken.

i just received my vostro 1500 today with the AUO screen. its a wxga+ screen with truelife aparantly these are among the worst for grainyness and tbh i dont know what everyone is moaning about. i think the screen is lovely especially when watching a dvd, trie pirates of the caribean 2 and it looks great :D ive been reading forums and browsing the web for a couple of hours and my eyes dont feel strained or sore or anything, i heard some ppl saying the graniness hurts your eyes when reading. infact ive actually turned the brightness down to about 60% because i find it easier to read than when on full brightness.

I have a great AUO screen also. Not all of them are bad. Just luck of the draw!
