I think you need a warranty to even contact dell support, so how would I contact them about getting the backlighting fixed on my e1705 as my screen works, it's light doesn't. Is this even cost feasible?

If the screen failed outside of the warranty, they won't fix it.

It would be cheaper to find a replacement screen on eBay than to pay Dell.

They will charge an arm and a leg for its repair (probably in the 400 dollar neighborhood). If you wanted them to do it you would still call the same tech support number as usual.

There is at least one repair company that works on out-of-warranty laptops. Many of my customers have sent notebooks to this one, and had good results.

Like everyone else said, it would be cheaper to go for a 3rd party repair on this. Toshiba quoted a friend of mine $400 for a screen replacement - and this was with a dropoff and pickup at a local Toshiba shop. So add at least $50 to that for shipping (insurance) and you'll be looking at a nice repair bill.

The cost of the LCD replacement will be around 500 dlls, including time and materials, and you will have to send your computer to have it repaired, this will take about 8 days, so it would be better if you find an LCD replacement, there is no fix for the backlight, or else try reseating the cable of the LCD, sometimes this fixes the issue, but most likely the LCD has to be replaced. If you like to send your computer to Dell contact the Out of Warranty Repair, Just give a call to Dell and ask them to transfer you to that department.

Best bet is to find a screen of even a whole broken system on eBay and do it yourself, or have someone local do it. They will want a ton of money.

    Good luck.
