    Hi all!
I have win-XP installed on my DELL Inspiron 1525.
Every time I type i touch the mouse pad by mistake, the cursor jumps to a different location and it irritates. Normaly I use a regular mouse plugged to USB.
How do I disable the mouse pad ?

(I haven't found it in BIOS)

    Thanks.

I heard from Dell in a chat with an agent, that they cannot be disabled. Bummer if true, I would hate to get a laptop and not be able to type on the keyboard and bump the mousepad making it bump the cursor everywhere. I am interested in the answer from our experts here though, I hope the dell agent was wrong. ;)

Ok I have XP on my Mini 9....if you want to disable the *touchpad* go to your taskbar. On your taskbar icons to the right, there should be an icon that looks like an actual *touchpad* if you hover over it, it will say: Dell Touchpad.

Open that up. You will have 4 selections: Device Select (Button Settings), Touchpad Settings, Scrolling Settings, and External Mouse Settings.

Click on Device Select...and on that screen you can disable The Touchpad, and The Touchpad Buttons.

You can also get to this thru your Control Panel.

    :D

This is one thing that really will help me because I am getting a dell netbook hopefully this year, I really want to wait on the mini 10 because I think the mini 12 is just too big. If I wanted big I think I'd go for the studio 15 or the Inspiron 15.

And no matter which one I go with, I would want to disable the touch pad since I plan on getting a laser nano mouse. :) In red to match the lappy. :D

Ohh you like red to eh?? That's just cool! :D

Yeah, the I12 isn't fairing to be so popular anymore. The I10 will surely be!
    The Nano is nice! ;)

And, the Dell Touchpad appears to be the same whether or not you have Vista or XP :D

I likey red a lot too, mostly because the blue they had wasn't intense enough for my taste. I was totally blown away by your mini 9's red though, truth be told seeing it next to Scarlett just blew my mind!

That is great to know about the touchpad ability to disable it in either XP or Vista. Thanks for the great info! :D

Yes...I believe the Dell Touchpad is standard on all of Dell's notebooks :D
It's a super easy function to change, also! ;)

    Cin ;) :)

P.S....I have a Crimson Red Nintendo DS Lite..you should see the color variations between the 3..pretty sweet! ;)

Awesome! I bet that they each have character all their own too. Our car is like a deep metalic red and I love it too. I actually bought some nail polish to match it! LOL!!! Crazy chick that I am... ;)

    Hi Everyone,

I read through the threads and tried to disable the mouse pad using the taskbar icon, but I couldn't find that icon. Is there any other way anyone can suggest for me, please? I'm rather technologically illiterate, so please be specific, if possible.

    Thanks!

Open the Control Panel, open Mouse, and the first tab should be the Dell Touchpad. Just click that and it will open the 4-button window that Cin' described earlier.

I have an Inspiron mini 10v running on Windows 7. I disabled the mousepad as follows:
Control Panel; Hardware & Sounds; Devices & Printers; Mouse; Device Settings; Synaptics Touchpad; Disable; Apply. Just remember to have a mouse connected first or you won't be able to control your cursor!
