After you format, all Dell bloatware is uninstalled and you're left with a clean system :)

DON'T DO IT!! i did that once, and then i tried reinstalling windows, but i had deleted all the dell drivers from the HD, so the PC wouldn't read the CD rom drive... so i couldn't get it to work... even with a non dell cd drive. i had to get some pro to fix it, don't know what he did...

Lol that only happens if you're a newb, no offense yoyo.

It will get rid of everything.

What you will have is a fresh OS and no software or drivers to speak of. You have to download and install those urself.

This is exactly what Dell did with your machine. Installed a fresh OS, then installed all drivers and crap software. Except now you get to choose what u install and only the things u need will be put on.

That's only for the drivers using the drivers and utilities cd.

As for the other software or apps, you must have the cds (the dvd decoder and cd/dvd burning software) which came with the system. Btw, as for the trial softwares or sharewares, you have to download them from the manufacturer's site as they are no longer found in the cds that dell sent.

i did a clean install on my 1520 as soon as i got it and it runs much better :)

    pretty simple:
do this if you want to keep mediadirect.

1.put in mediadirect 3 cd and press f12 at startup, boot from cd
2 go thorugh with the installation.
    3. it tells you to take the cd out and put in OS cd
4.install os on your primary partition.
    3. when in windows put in MD cd and install it.
    4. insert the drivers cd and install the ones that are checked.
make sure that you have the ones on computer that arent checked. my videocard driver wasnt cheked and it wasnt on my computer....you can also do this from the dell web site.

thats it...you should have a nice and "clean" computer now.
pm me if you have any questions :)

When you do the fresh install with just the vista cd, is media direct left untouched?

nope. you need to insert the mediadirect in first so it can create a special partition for itself.

How come liquidplasma6 didn't have to do that. The partition was already there.
