I purchased a Vostro 1700 which I am fairly pleased with, with the exception of the LCD screen. I ordered the UltraSharp WUXGA 1920x1200 screen and got the crappy Samsung sec3155 screen. It is grainy and has a weird silk-screen effect. I had the sweet LG screen on my old E1705 and I really want to get an LG to replace this one, but after spending over an hour on the phone with Dell I was told that they would not send out a specific LCD brand, and if I wanted to have the screen replaced I would just have to return the notebook entirely, re-order, and hope for a better screen. I have read on this forum that people have had Dell techs come out and replace their screen multiple times in order to get a decent LCD. How do I go about this? Who should I talk to? Thanks.

It's all about your warranty, like the guy above said.

Just send it to the Depot. Send it on a monday and you will most likely have it back by wednesday or thursday.

Tell them the type of problem you are having and even include a hand written note for the actual people that will repair the notebook @ the depot.

If you don't get a better screen, just send it back!

My 1st Hardrive was a lemon, long story short. They sent me a replacement laptop and upgraded my hard drive. You should beable to just get them to resend a working laptop with a 100% satisfaction screen, in Canada its 30 days for satisfaction.

How can you tell what brand screen you have? Why do they put different brand screens in the same model? I have a Vostro 1500 with the standard XGA screen and it looks good.

i'm guessing the lack of availability of LCD screens. they need to get it from multiple sources.
