Try contacting Dell Chat again, and if that doesn't work try again. There are always helpful Chat Operators. Remember you can win more flies with honey than vinegar. Be overly nice and complementary, it really helps and they will be more willing to help you out. They probably thought I was trying to pick them up with all my compliments but I received XP discs from both HP and Dell for $0 way after the purchase date. The Dell discs I received half a year after purchase.

hey, while we're on the subject, is it possible to make your own reinstallation CDs, or is that like impossible to accomplish with free software?

Dell chat is telling me its possible to burn recovery disc
"The back up CD will not be sent along with the order by default, since that particular software is pre-installed in your system. However, you may burn the software with an empty CD, to know how to burn the software, you may check with our (Technical support) Hardware warranty department,"

Ages ago, they use to include software on your laptop which allowed you to burn 1 copy to a disc. Basically this gave you a OEM disc. I think the program was called Dell Restore Disc Utility or something similar. If you have it, you'll see it under start-->programs-->most likely in the Dell folder.

Yes, Dell does offer the option to burn recovery disks, just like HP and many other manufacturers. HP I know offers you to burn it once, and only once, to a couple DVD's or multiple multiple CD's. The option to have a DVD-burner is greatly needed if you plan on making recovery disks.

Wearetheborg, I am glad that you were able to get the discs sent out to you. See where please and thank you get you!!!! :)

i'm with in that period, but like a moron i put my CDs in a place in my bag where they'd easily fall out and, well, they proved my theory. Am I eligible for a set of new CDs, especially since the CDs they gave me didn't have half the drivers for my notebook?
