My receiver has digital inputs so it seems silly for me to get a sound card to get good sound quality into the receiver. Is there a simple way to get digital audio out without getting a sound card?

but for the M140. Call Dell spare parts and ask them for the right one (might even be the same part).
Note that this will give you 5.1 DVDs but only stereo from music and games. To get digital 5.1 in games, you need something like the sondigo callisto:

Unless you're game has true 5.1 dts output, not many do, but I have heard that HL2 actually does, but for bf2 and all those, I think you're out of luck. This might help you a little. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=83389

Yes, a very few games have a live DTS or DD encoder built-in (especially on the XBox, I've heard).
