On the Dell support site it lists all of the drivers for your system, how do you know which ones to get? It lists all of them and it's hard to tell which ones appliy to your machine. Do you just get one from each category? I'm new to reformatting my machine so all help is appreciated.

SG listed all of the "categories in her guide, if I get 1 driver from each category(the one that matches my hardware of course) then should I be fine?

MarkMcK pretty much listed all the required drivers.

Under the chipset category, you'll need to download two drivers. The Ricoh chipset is needed in order to use the card reader.

Unfortunately, no it's not that simple. Under some categories you will probably need more than just one [e.g. Chipset and Network drivers 'Categories']

Probably initially, but not so much so when/if the drivers on your disk get too old...

Doesn't Dell send out email notices when an upgrade to a driver is made instructing the customer to download and install the updated driver?

Ah...if only life were that simple...

Not from my experience, in anycase. This is something that you've gotta be dilligent about and take the initiative for as a computer owner. In most cases, a company isn't going to hold your hand like this unless you shell out the cash for it.

As far as which drivers to download, one trick is to take a look at the revision number and/or date that the driver was released. That's what I do, in anycase.

First I was nervous about the actual reformat, now I'm nervous about the drivers instead. Is there a guide posted somewhere specifically about reinstalling the drivers on your pc?
