My 1720 just arrived and the screen looks pretty good (1920 x 1200). How can I tell what make I got? I'm curious as to whether i got an LG screen or not.

yes..but sounds like yours as well as mine and now others are reporting that there have been great ones ...lucky ..who knows ..all I know is that I have had peeps look at mine and they say it is great at the high rez...the pics on here are usually of a grainy Samsung and a good LG ...not a Samsung that looks like it should...compared to an LG ..I could be wrong..but the grainy screen thread has peeps that won't even give the screen a chance ...just return until they get an LG ...all I say is keep an open mind... ...I was surprised and maybe Dell has sorted it out...although I also hear otherwise... the botom line is you pay for it so for all the wack you spend be sure you are happy ..and it sounds like you are...cheers!!!

that's the thing..peeps who read up on this may not have an issue and focus on the brand rather than the quality... hence all the switching...for me it wasn't about brand but how it looks..and whatever brand it is if its bad I would replace it and so be it...to me LG is the the be all and end all...just a nice clear crisp screen...

Hey Legend... It may raise your opinion of yourself to put others down and suggest they don't know what there seeing but the fact is that screen is crap and should not be installed on ANY computer let alone a premium one.
There are no "good" ones, just ones that are not as bad as others. If you are lucky enough to get one without grain, you will still have poor colour and dreadful viewing angles.
People have a right to complain and as far as I'm concerned, should do so loud and often.

    Take a look,

The wxga+ sec I briefly had with the 1420 did have crappy viewing angles. So bad in fact that even when you stood right in front you could not get consistent contrast brightness. I was constantly adjusting the freaking thing. I'm not too fussy though. Had Dell just shipped me another SEC with the replacement I got for a cracked lid, I probably would have put up with it. But the replacement had the dreaded AUO which was pure crap. But I'm glad it went that way since the LG I have with my HP blows both the screens that dell tried to send me. No hallucination's here. I know dell sends some rather crappy panels.. no doubt about it.
