I was reading the forums and noticed the controversy surrounding the grainy screens on the dell XPS M1530. I saw someone mention how to figure out which screen you had in windows vista. However I wiped the bloatware that is vista the moment I got my machine and installed Ubuntu Linux and Windows XP.

How do I tell which screen I got in windows XP (or ubuntu for that matter if anyone knows)?

Follow up question: What are the numbers for the good screen and the bad screen again? I saw it somewhere but lost it.

Should be the same way as in Vista. There are no good and bad numbers to tell if you have a bad screen. You can tell if you have a bad screen by looking at it.

I know I have a bad screen by looking at. The repair guy is coming out today to replace it and I want to be able to confirm that I got a good one.

Control Panel - Device Manager - Monitors - Generic PnP Monitor - Details - Hardware Ids ---> LPL = LG, SEC = Samsung, CMO = Chi Mei not sure about the last one but if it say's AU it is an AUO panel...

You can't confirm if you have a good screen by looking at the make/model.

If it looks good to you, it's a good one.

Kinda getting tired of people switching screens because they "heard" their screen is a "bad" one. When they can't even tell themselves what's bad about it.

I can certainly tell. I just like checking things to be 100% sure.
