I own a dell inspirion and I recently purchased a new battery for it on ebay. its a new DELL replacement battery. I made sure the type was a match so I know its not nothing like that. My question is, the battery isnt even a month old and were getting an error msg that says the battery is almost at the end of its useful life. I emailed the ebay vendor who sold me the battery and told him what was happening. he said that it could be that the laptop bios is not current. he said newer batteries will have trouble working if the bios wasnt current. how do I check and if need be update the bios so that its current?

THis should go in the dell forum. Anyways, try the dell support page, you may be able to get a download location from there

You need to tell the ebay seller to give your money back or you will file a dispute with paypal/cc company.

He is full of you know what and sold you a bad battery. The BIOS is not going to have anything to do with the battery being bad.

I would at least give it a shot.

Check out support.dell.com and go to the drivers and download section.. pop in your service tag, and download the latest BIOS update utility.

Thanks folks I appreciate it..I think I will update the bios but I have already asked the seller for an exchange. its supposed to be a new dell replacement battery. If he doesnt have another. I will request a refund. I went the way of ebay because Dell wanted $219 for a new one. I got this one for $54 + shpg. I guess you get what you pay for. oh well..thx/gb

In this case, not really. Dell's price is actually inflated due to a fire that destroyed one of the largest battery plants in China. So the $50 or so on eBay is considered reasonable.
