    Hi,

I had to replace a motherboard in a Dell M1210. I bought the mobo used & installed it in a friends laptop. I would like to make sure the old service tag comes up correctly in the bios.

I have seen a bios reset software, but I am not looking to XXX out the service tag, I would like to put the proper number in it.

    How can I accomplish this?

    Thanks,
    Rich

If a service tag is NOT already entered in (blank or just "X"s) then you can type the service tag in. Otherwise, you cannot change it and you'll have to call Dell about it.

The service tag field is a "write-once" field in BIOS.
