Do you actually have to be a Dell employee or student, or are there ways to get it even if you're not?

Yes, *technically* you have to have a Employer that participates with the EPP to purchase. Or, be a student and if your School participates you can get it that way. ;)

but they do not check... :) I just bought it on their EPP site, and the order did not ask for any information regarding my school.

That's new to me...Then, if so...

Dell ought to make a statement/Press Release saying that EPP is open to everyone vs. those that actually have it thru their Employer/School/Govt. Affiliation ~ having to use their Member ID each time to log in to access...

I have to log in with my Member ID each time to use EPP.

    Uhhh... ok, I guess.

If Dell cared than they would make everyone verify their credentials.

Honestly, EPP is more of a marketing strategy than anything else. Most times the prices are the same because the starting prices and the options while configuring are different.

The savings are usually quite minimal. Also, coupons are only good for the Home section so sometimes it is cheaper their too.

Good to hear....That's the reason why Member's have ID's they need to use to log into the Dell EPP site. ;)

And, I will continue doing so w/my Member ID..til Dell makes an announcement that The EPP discount is applicable to everyone.

My Employer won't be to happy to hear that. lulz. EPP does match/beat Dell home pricing..it's part of the program.

Do you really think it is constituting fraud by using EPP? lol

Seriously, this thread is getting a little ridiculous

The member code is for Dell tracking purposes to see what companies are promoting Dell more than others.

Even the page that asks for your code has a link to enter without it. hahaha

Your employer won't care. It's not like it costs them anything. Go ahead and ask your HR manager and let me know what he/she says.

EPP will only match home if you call in and order. Most people don't know that :)

AND Home will not match or beat if you used a coupon or if the price is a Home exclusive deal (which many times it is).

Actually my employer will care, because that's just how they are... :)

I use EPP all the time..I never purchase thru home. And, I would rather use EPP per how I was instructed to use it.
If, it's so easily accessible to Non EPP Members..then I guess Dell better integrate it with the Dell home site.
Make it easier on everyone..

And, EPP has always matched and beat Dell Home pricing..They even honored a Small Business Coupon & my other applicable discounts. Maybe I just have a really good Rep...Yeah, I do!

Well, I dont know what EPP is but that is the only discount they gave me when I bargained with them and I am no way connected to dell. So I guess it is for everyone.

Hey, after all that hard work of bargaining, ATLEAST i got 7% off :D

It's pretty well-known that the EPP discount is not all that special.

I am just surprised that people on here actually think it is fraud to use the EPP site..LOL

Most times the prices on EPP aren't any better because Dell loves to play games when it comes to pricing between different sections (Home, Small Business, etc).

For instance, a couple of weeks ago there was a deal on the Home site for a 1640 that included a $100 GC. You could access the deal going thru EPP first but the GC wasn't showing in the cart after you added the system.

The GC made the EPP deal about the same. Also, certain options were priced more (SSD was $325 in the Home section and $375 on EPP). Standard warranty on EPP is 1 year as opposed to the 2 and 3 year default options you see on the Home site.

If you pay attention to the details you'll see there are few things that are cheaper when all is said and done.

Like I said before, Dell is an excellent marketing company and the EPP section is just one giant, trackable advertisement :D

it is FRAUD if you use the EPP section without gaining access through valid channels (college students, companies)

dell might not check now, but they do reserve the right to verify your EPP status, and bill your CC for the discounts (EPP has a 7-12% furthur discount, depending on the company you represent)...

Dell Home usually has a lot of 'sales' and 'coupons', but i've always found EPP prices to be cheaper overall if you compare multiple configs/products... Home 'sales' doesn't always mean 'sales' in EPP, and vice versa too

Keep thinking that... You'll be fine. Dell cannot legally charge you anything other than the amount listed in your invoice. And, no, they don't check whether or not your business is listed or if you even have a member code.

I am done trying to explain the entire EPP thing to you guys. Like I said in another thread - I could care less. I was just tryig to shed some light on the subject since it always comes up (and I have accurate info from a close EPP rep).

Use it if you want or don't.....

Actually, Dell does check for *fraudulent activities* with use of the Dell EPP Program, as they *see fit*.

It's wrong to use it if you do not have an affiliation to EPP.

Otherwise, it would be *stated* "open to everyone", and the discounts applicable on Dell's Home site.

EPP/CPP is intended for certain personnel and as mentioned has certain perks. Even though you may not be legally held accountable for abusing the system, it is against their TOS(terms of service) and they can cancel your order.

Also, thread closed since it has gone into discussion about fraudulent activites/violates NBR's community standards.
