When ordering a laptop through Dell's website, there are options to add extra software and hardware. How does Dell handle these items if they are selected?
Does the extra software come pre-installed or in a retail box so I can install them (or sell them)?
Does the extra hardware, like expresscards, come in their retail packaging?
Are the extra goodies shipped with the laptop or separately?

I don't have any experience with this, but the top box has a ton of room in it and it would surprise me if Dell did ship anything additional separately.
You won't get retail packaging, you'll get either just a CD case or shrinkwrap (usually shrinkwrap). They don't need to send you a box when its in a box. This applies to extras like express cards too.
As far as it being installed, I would assume they install everything for you unless you specific otherwise. -
Hardware ships seperately, from a different location. My 1520 was built in Utah but the X-Fi Notebook shipped from Memphis. It comes retail just like buying it anywhere else.
Don't know about software. -
When my stepmom added Webroot SpySweeper to her desktop-it came in seperate media and was not installed on the system.

Extra 3rd party software will come in a separate delivery. These products are usually in stock at one of Dell's vendors so it could come from various locations. They are typically in retail boxes.
How does Dell handle ordering extra software and hardware with the laptop?
