I got the same system, but with 2GB of RAM and the 160GB 7200rpm hard drive for $1508 from the outlet about a month ago. Ohh and both the 6-cell and 9-cell because they D420 I received originally was broken.

Few months back that would have been an OK price, but not anymore due to the upcoming platform change. I paid USD 1500 in February for :
    T7200, 2GB RAM, 120GB HDD (5400), Go 7400, BT/Wi-Fi, Vista Ultimate 32bit, 6 Cell battery, 3Yr Warranty + 1Yr Complete care and 6 months free subscription to a 50M broadband connection (which I never used)
    from DELL Japan.

No scratches whatsoever. I also couldn't believe it had the 160gb 7200 rpm drive which was like a $200 upgrade when first released. Sure enough it had it and I jumped on the deal.

It was refurb. not scratch and dent, but the original manufacture date was 10 days before my new service tag was issued.
