I would ask proud D830 owners one question:

If your D830 came with WUXGA and you adjust its screen resolution from WUXGA from WSGA+ (can you?), how do you feel about it? The screen displays equally well (clear/sharp) as WUXGA? I understand fonts size will be larger.

    Regards,
    David

Hi, I don't have a D830, (but am planning on ordering one soon), but i know a lil about lcd screens. Basically, they are designed to look best at their native resolution (that is if you bought a WUXGA laptop, it will look best at WUXGA) The best example of this i can give you is to set an older laptop or desktop computer with an lcd screen to a smaller resolution than its native resolution (ie: set it to 800x600 on a 1024x768 screen) The result: it doesnt look terrible, but it doesnt look as good as the 1024x768.

What you can do with the WUXGA screen is set your dpi settings to increase the size of the text, although not all applications will scale their content properly to the massive screen. If you want a happy medium, go with the WSXGA+ screen. Its big-ish, but will still be readable. If necessary, you can also change the dpi settings for the WSXGA+ to make the text larger.

Its really a matter of personal preference, some people like WUXGA, some people dont. I like it on 17 inch screens, but i think its too small on a 15.4 inch. if you think about it in terms of pixel density (pixels/square inch) WUXGA on a 17inch will have a similar density to WSXGA+ on a 15.4, whereas WUXGA on a 15.4 will have a very very high density. Also to consider is the power consumption, of course powering more pixels uses more power.

I hope anything i've just said helps.

Is the power consumption really an issue there? I never thought of a WSXGA+ getting more batt. life than a WUXGA. Can someone confirm this?

I have the d830 with wuxga and the resolution is way to small for me. I work in all kinds of programs and have been on a computer since 1995. The resolution is nice but I think the built in Intel graphics card isn't so good. I'm going to return it because the resolution with the wuxga is no good for a 15.4 in my opinion.
