I purchased this on the phone w/ a dell sales rep and used that 25% off coupon from last week that expired. He also gave me a $100 giftcard but said it would only come after 21 days after I receive my purchase. Since you can return your system in that time frame and Dell would lose 100 bucks if I returned it. Hopefully he wasnt lying to me since I have no proof in the invoice of me receiving a gift card w/ the purchase. I also tried convincing him to gave me express shipping since he couldnt gave me an additional 20 bucks liked he promised last Friday. He said he will get me the computer to me as fast as possible. Not sure what that means.

So how good of a deal did I get compared you folks who have purchased the Studio 1555. Any other way I can knock off 50 bucks? Oh and this was a US purchase.

For those of you buying off dell I would really suggest calling them.

Neato, seems like a damn good deal to me. I would prolly go for the same thing, but I would get the 4570 256MB or 512MB...

I got the "invoice" for my replacement 1536 and it came to 999.98 USD, and old AMD X2 laptop =).

dude.. you could do better than that. Here is my order that i put in about a week and a half ago that came out to 869.25 pretax post 25% coupon like yours. I limed where I upgraded above yours and redded where you upgraded above mine. As far as I remember for dell prices, 1 gig of memory + 250 gigs HD (both of which are replaceable cheaper) and one more year of warranty is a lot less than a proc upgrade, vid card upgrade, keyboard upgrade, slight wireless upgrade and screen upgrade with edge to edge. I think your sales rep started you off on a more expensive base model.

Well I dont see myself upgrading the memory or the HDD manually. Wouldn't have a clue on how to replace it. I dont play games and want less heat and better battery life so i went w/ 4500HD. Backlight Keyboard is useless to me.

I actually was the one who created the configuration which started at $599 which i assume is where you started too. He looked at my saved cart.

And I think the extended warranty is 100 buck upgrade. Plus I got the 100 dollar giftcard (hopefully).

The memory and hard drive are actually extremely easy to replace. You just remove the L-shaped bottom panel with 3 screws, and there you go. Access to both RAM sticks and the hard drive.

Well I didnt know that but im fine w/ the system im getting. I just hope it comes in w/ no problems especially w/ all the problems im hearing on this forum.

What exactly is the better HDD brand that comes w/ this laptop? And only one brand makes the 900p screens?

Western Digital and Seagate are the better hard drive brands in my opinion. Not that there's anything wrong with Fujitsu or Hitachi, though.

As far as I know, the only 900p display is made by AU Optronics.
