How hard is it to install extra memory , such as 2GB on my own? Trying to save a little money if at all possible. Anything else that I can install myself to save extra money? I won't being this, as I will get my step son to do it, he is in the Coast Guard and works on computers! Thanks for your help!

It's dead ez, even more so with the newer machines.

And you can save a considerable amount of money.

Vendors always mark ram up to much, it's like a nasty joke.

Usually its not hard at all. Just one screw on the bottom of the laptop and slide them in.

The vostro 1500/ inspiron 1520 and some other laptops make it a little harder to upgrade (see link in my sig) but for the most time its super simple.

Where do I buy extra memory? Like Best Buy? Or do I have to order on line?

Best Buy works, however you can probably get it cheaper online.

Check www.newegg.com and also see our ram deals thread for bargins.

As other posters have said, it's dead easy to upgrade yourself.

If you have questions regarding the compatibility of a specific module, post a link or specs here and someone will help you. :)

If you don't mind waiting for it to come, go with online (chiefvalue.com, newegg.com, zipzoomfly.com). The prices are much better with a wider variety of manufacturers.

Best Buy is a big rip-off.. Two gig costs like $200...

You can get the same on Newegg for $40.

    Newegg is an excellent source.

Yeah, the only way to save money on a ram upgrade is to buy it yourself online. If you buy it at a store, it will cost as much if not more than it would through the manufacturer originally.
