    I'm new to the relm of notebooks, and was just wondering how hard it it to upgrade the ram in them? Things like matching the ram? Installing? How expensive is 512mb? Voiding the warranty? The reason behind my question is that I'm getting ready to order an 8600 and am trying to decide if I should pay the $50 to get the 512mb in one dimm so that I can add another 512mb dimm when I get it. Thanks for any info.

    It is not hard, nor will it void your warranty. Just look for pc-2700 DDR333 200-pin SODIMM's at 512MB. They should cost 80 to 90 dollars each.

    * Inspiron 8600c * 1.8ghz Pentium M * 128 MB Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo * 2x512 MB DDR2700 SDRAM * 60GB 7200RPM HDD *

    GTBuck turn off all electrical power and remove your battery 10 minutes before you unscrew, then pu new in lined up V cut. Close the lid turn on all the power, reinstall the battery then go to Control Panel go for My System. If done right your computer will pick up and add the new memory to existing memory e.g 512MB then it says 1,024GB.
    Moderators could help a bit more but they let users who have done what was asked, to do their job for them.[ :)]

    So how big of a performance boost do you see? Anyone benchmark the difference?
