It's just a matter if unscrewing 2 screws from the memory cover at the bottom of the laptop, and then inserting the new memory module into an open slot. It takes no more than 10-15 minutes and is simple to do.

Very easy...support.dell.com should a comprehensive service guide for the D830 that tells you how to remove/replace the ram.

While I can't be 100% certain for your model, upgrading RAM is a simple, quick and painless process on most laptops. Check the bottom of your laptop, there should be a small panel held in place with 1 or 2 screws. Open the panel and your RAM should be right there, lying flat. Usually you just insert the RAM at an angle, then gently push down until it clicks into place. Upgrading my memory took about 3 minutes from beginning to end.

Once I get my XPS (the crappy $599 model) I want to upgrade to 3GB of ram, so does anyone know what I should get? I want 2 DIMMs and them to be running as best as they could, so does anyone know specific ones I should buy?

I bought 4GB of ram 2x2GB of Crucial Value Select PC5300 ram @667mhz from Newegg.com for $73.98 with free shipping. :) The price went up but this is a pretty similar deal and they make great memory.

It's funny because people often compare installing RAM to easy things.

"It's as easy as upgrading your RAM!"

I'm assuming the only things people need to worry about upgrading ram is the correct PIN (200-Pin for the XPS m1530 right?) and if they're good or broken or any way.
