    How is Dell India delivery and support

    Hi,

    I am thinking about buying dell Inspiron 9400 laptop. I plan to keep this laptop for next 2-3 years. It will cost me about US $2200 (Rs.100,000). Before taking any further decision I want to know how is delivery and after sales service of dell India. How they are going to send me package?. Is there after sales service good? for example, if my motherboard or RAM went bad, how fast they will replace it.

    Anyone have any experience with dell India.

    I have had no experience with their Indian Service, but I wouldnt count on them. India is still an emerging notebook market for Dell. Where do you live in India? If you live somewhere like Mumbai, Delhi or bangalore I assume delivery will be quick. Shipping would be dubious if you live rural.

    Make sure you check details, and terms and conditions, and how the package is going to delivered. The national Indian postal service, is quite frankly, diabolical. The postman comes around every 2 months. :p.

    On another note, the people I know in major Indian cities are happy with their Dells. No issues.

    Hi Maxberry,

    Well first u can visit their website www.dell.co.in , make ur selection for the desired laptop, if u want to, upgrade the basic system configuration to ur preferences, after that’s all done u would get the final quotation for the laptop. Email your self the copy of the quotation just for the record.

    Then call 080-2506-8026 (standard charges apply), basically it their costumer care centre based in Bangalore. They would connect you to a sales executive and u can discuss ur purchase accordingly.

    Insist on maximum discount , tell them I need the maximum u have to offer , don’t agree what they offer you initially because they can and will bring down the amount on the quotation , keep asking them to give u their final quotation which would be considerably less than the quotation u had mailed yourself earlier.

    Secondly if possible make your purchase on the last day of the month or the week on a Friday, cuz it’s their closing and they offer u freebies just to close the deal (software’s, av cables etc). Thirdly u can/should also ask for tax rebate, they charge like 5% on the total system cost. They might do it and u save more :)

    Shipping to Mumbai would be zero trouble; it’s a big cosmopolitan city.

    Hey Max,

    I am totally satisfied with my purchase. Got my self a XPS M1210, totally what I wanted and expected it to be and yes pretty happy with it. Overall experience with the costumer care was good, expect the time duration for the shipment which was 3 weeks.

    Too much bloatware installed on the system, did a clean install and now it run much faster. Vista is very annoying at the start but u will get a hang of it. Ne thing else u wanna know ask me .

    Hi Gaurve what type of freebies did you get with your laptop?? Also like on dell USA website they offer tv tuner, printer they are not offered on dell India website so can we ask for these things while placing order??

    Hey prattom,

    I had got the MacAfee subscription for 15 months as a freebie with the laptop. No, they dont offer tv tuner or printers, have to buy them else where. The dell india website is only for the laptop and a few Accessories. So the only freebies they offer is the av cables , antivirus softwares , carrying bags etc depending upon the type of purchase.

    The total tax applicable depends from state to state in india. The tax CST/VAT 5% of the total amount of my purchase (In Delhi ). For my purchase i got 5 % tax waiver on the total amount + approx 4 grand cash discount + 1500 rs MacAfee subscription free on the purchase.

    You have to tell them that you want the VAT to be discounted. This will delay the delivery by a week though. Normally, it is sent directly from the factory in Penang to your home. But this method requires you to pay the VAT. However, if they collect it at their Bangalore office and then send it to you from Bangalore, they can avoid the VAT for you. Hence the delay in shipment if you want to avoid the VAT.

    You can get Rs.1500 off if you pay via Credit Card.

    The rest of the discount depends on how you bargain, smart guys like Gaurve can get that much (4k!) discount ! :D

    Mann it took only 12 days for my 1720 to arrive at my place from malayasia. . . Dell has done its job pretty fast. . . But hell with those useless DHL . . . They haven't delivered it till now. . . Its been 4 damned days since it finished its customs and clearance. . . . And honestly it only takes a single day to deliver it WTF !! Is wrong with DHL. . . And dell can't even do a thing about it. . . Can you believe it. . . !! What am i supposed to do now. . . Is their any way i can contact with dhl directly. . . ??

    I ordered a XPS M1330 on the 31st. I'll try to keep you guys posted as the order progresses (I ordered directly via the website, so I had no option for negotiating). My credit card has already been charged, and probably I'll get an estimated delivery tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get it by September.. :).

    I have ordered Inspiron 1520 on 28 Dec 2007 for below config.

    C2D/2GB RAM/15.4"/160GB HDD/Web Cam/Midnight Blue/3yr complete cover.

    Now the online status shows "Ship from Factory", Any idea when it will reach me (without VAT, Rs1500 off) if everything goes fine!!!

    Your order has to go through following stages before the actual delivery happens:

    "Ship from factory -> Customs (+4-5 days) -> Invoising (+1-2 days) -> On its way to you (Depends upon where you stay) -> Delivered"

    Mine was in customs since 21st Dec and it got cleared from it today. Now it's in the invoising phase..

    Dell India delivery and support is pathetic.

    There are a number of problems with the billing, invoicing and delivery of the order in Dell India, which left me very dissatisfied.

    1. There was no way to place my order online directly without getting a sales representative involved.

    2. Once my order was successfully placed, the sales representative stopped taking my calls and stopped answering my e-mails.

    3. The sales representative did not provide me any way to track the status of my order.

    4. The expected date of delivery (15 days) was communicated only verbally, not in written.

    5. The credit card payment had to be made over the phone. There was no payment gateway however. I was supposed to hand over my credit card details to the Sales Representative verbally. This is a highly unsafe and therefore an unacceptable practice.

    6. After making the payment, I was not provided any written record (hard copy / soft copy) as a receipt for the payment.

    7. My notebook computer was delivered to me after a long delay (one month after placing the order and making the payment). Such delays are unacceptable, and must be compensated for, if unavoidable due to any reason.

    For these reasons, I would never recommend Dell to any friend, relative or colleague.

    Here are my views...

    1) I would always place the order through a Sales representative so that I can vouch for a discount over phone, which is not possible online. They provide a toll-free number and would even call back, so no issues there.

    2) The sales representative who handled my call was very helpful even after the sales process and I received follow up calls from another representative regarding the order status.

    3) I received the online tracking details the same day, not sure if your Sales representative missed to give you.

    4) Yes, I was told 2 - 3 weeks over phone and in the email confirmation.

    5) I also was in two minds to give the Credit Card number over phone, but that is the normal practise if you order via phone... anyway no misuse of my Credit Card until now :)

    6) True, but I never cared though as I didn't require any and there was a bill/invoice along with the item when it arrived.

    7) Mine was delivered within 9 days.

    My Dell Inspiron 6400 has been rock solid and when the backspace key came off (I hit the keyboard when an ant went inside :p ), I called their Customer Care and the next day someone from Wipro (Dell's local service provider here) came and replaced the keyboard. I would not have any hesitation to recommend Dell to anyone. ;)

    Hi ! I wish to order a DELL Inspiron 1525.. Could u tell howz this bargaining with salesperson done .. i mean is it really possible 2 bargain..??
    Secondly, Dell is providing a wireless bluetooth stereo headset 4 an additional cost of approx. Rs.2700. Is it a reasonable price 4 it or can i get one cheaper in the market..??

    Yeah Its Really Possible To Bargain Over Telephone, Tell Them What Max Discount They Can Offer As It Will Help U In Deciding Among Various Brands Available. After That Ask Ur Csr To Send U A Quote By Consulting His/ Her Manager For Max Discount As U Are A Bit Uncomfortable With The Pricing.
    U Can Definitely Get A Cheaper Wl Bt Steteo Headset In Market..

    1- ITS DEFINITELY BETTER 2 GO FOR A CSR AS THEY CAN CLEAR UR DOUBTS N ALSO GOOD 4 BARGAIN. (I GOT APPX 3K OFF)
    2- CSR STOPPED TAKING MY CALLS BUT WAS REPLIN 2 MY E MAILS. I STARTED CALLING CUSTMER HELPLINE FOR OTHER INFO N THEY WERE TAKING CALLS.
    3- I INSISTED FOR ORDER NO FOR TRACKING AS I PLACED THE ORDER N I GOT IT WITHIN SIX HOURS.
    4- VERBALLY TOLD 15 WORKING DAYS FOR DELIVERY. ORDERED ON 25.01.08 GOT 14.02.08 AS E.D.D. FROM ORDER TRACKING FACILITY ON WEBSITE (WHICH IS APPX 15 WORKING DAYS). DELIVERED ON 2.00 PM ON 14.02.08 IN DEHRADUN. VERY MUCH SATISFIED WITH DELIVERY.
    5- WE KNOW BEFORE HAND THAT TRANSACTION WILL BE LIKE THIS ONLY. ALL SUCH CALLS ARE RECORDED AT DELL FOR FUTURE. BTW MY CREDIT CARD ONLY HAD A BALANCE OF RS 500 MORE AFTER COMPLETING THE TRANSACTION SO I WAS NOT THAT MUCH CONCERNED OF MISUSE. (I PPLANNED IT IN THIS MANNER.)
    6-I RECD A SMS FROM MY BANK ABOUT THE TRANSACTION. ALSO QUOTE RECD SAYS ' TERMS: PREPAYMENT CASH'.
    7-NO DELAYS IN DELIVERY, HOWEVER RECD AN EMAIL FROM DELL 10 DAYS AFTER PLACING THE ORDER THAT IT WILL BE DELIVERED 10 DAYS LATER THAN THE EARLIER TOLD E.D.D. I.E., ON 24.02.08 BUT RECD ON 14.02.08.

    WAS ONLY A BIT FRUSTRATED ABOUT DELIVERY STATUS BEFORE RECEIVING THE DELIVERY AS CSR CUD NOT PROVIDE THE SHIPPING DETAILS LIKE NAME OF CARRIER N DOCKET NO. RECD HELP FROM HELPLINE AFTER RCVIN LAPPY ABOUT A FEW OPERATION ISSUES. NO BODY CUD COME FOR INSTALLATION TILL TODAY DESPITE CALLING TWICE.

    CONCLUSION:
    TILL DATE 100% SATISFIED WITH THE PRODUCT AND ITS QUALITY.

    I think they provide good support in india. I got my laptop XPS 1530 in just 7 days. Dell Customer care called me 3 times for unpacking and installation.
