Guys, I've avoided buying Dell stuff for years because they ripped me off once and I think their support also sucks.

Well, having a hard time finding a laptop I like, I thought I might look into them again, but, my question is, how is their support and what's this pro support that guarantees you a reply in 2 mins?
A fast reply doesn't mean the service will be good or the person knowledgeable.

    THanks

I have had my ups & downs with Support in the past. But, as of recent things have worked out just fine. They came through for me when I had problems the last time on my lappy, and I was very happy with that.

I actually wanted to come to this forum to talk about Dell Support and I saw this thread. I don't know anything about laptop support but I just recently bought their U2311H eIPS monitor for a sweet $239 + taxes. I received the package fairly quickly (7 days total) but I actually wanted to return the package. So I called Dell and to my surprised it took me 30 seconds to get to a CSR. She asked me what was wrong with the monitor and I said I don't like it, the colors aren't what I expected, etc. She said she can get me to a tech to help me set it up but I said I've already calibrated it with a professional calibration kit (I actually didn't....lol). Anyway, she sent me a prepaid UPS label within and hour and it was done. Today (after sleeping on the issue), I decided to keep the monitor. Initially I wanted to return it because the color was "weird" compared to my Envy14's screen but now that I look at it, the Envy's screen is WAAY too blue. the U2311H's colors are much more natural. Besides, all the review sites (REAL sites, not those useless "feature comparison" sites that just list its specs) said the colors are very accurate. Besides, I got an awesome deal on it. Anyway, long story short, I called again today and was greeted by a representative within a minute (literally zero waiting time)...again! Anyways, I've very happy with this whole process. It was painless. Just wanted to share that with you. Not too sure if it applies for laptops...

Oh, by the way, it was the Dell Canada general support line that I called so...yea...take this for what its worth, lol.

    Cheers.

Thanks. My experience as you have seen is nothing like yours but I'm glad it worked out for you and yeah, I'm guessing the fact that you talked to someone in Canada made a difference.

Dell support was a+ for me. I had a Dell XPS M1710 which I thought the fans were bad, and they sent me 2 sets of replacement fans for free. Then I found out it was the video card which I bought from a crappy seller on eBay :(

The recently I bought a dead M1330 off eBay that still had a few months left on the warranty. I called Dell and they sent a tech to me and he replaced the motherboard.

Actually no. The two CSRs I spoke to were definitely not from Canada. Both had Indian accents although you could tell that they were much more neutral than a REAL Indian accent (I grew up with a lot of Indians in my school and two of my good friends are Indian so I know what the accent is like). The first one was obviously a new recruit because at the end she had her supervisor (who had a VERY thick accent) speak to me and ask me about her performance, lol. I said I was very surprised at how fast and easy that was and I thanked them. Also they didn't try to hide their names, I don't remember what they were but it didn't sound English at all.

Again I was pretty surprised since I've heard all the horror stories about dealing with Dell. This monitor was the first Dell product I've ever purchased.

The only problems I have with Dell support is the long wait times on call and people who cant speak english well. Dell at-home warranty is actual very good. They will send someone to your home (or any location you want) to replace the problem part at no charge. Or you can request a box to ship them you laptop to fix is you dont have this warranty. All shipping is covered. Since I am hardware savy, a lot of times if I know whats the problem part, I would convince them to send me the part to replace, and send them back the bad part. Again shipping is covered both ways.

I think Dell laptop suck but if you know how to use the warranty to your advantage, they are hard to bash.

My 2 cents. I call Dell from USA if anyone is wondering.

Dell's business support has been great, no idea for consumer lines.

Well, I'm glad this is your experience guys as you've obviously seen that it's not mine :)

I decided to stick with my HP or at least I think I will. I've got a buddy of mine doing a clean install on it and when I get it back, I'll play around with it and make a decision and if not, I'll be on the hunt again for another laptop.

The problem was, I couldn't FIND the right stuff from Dell. Got all confused with the different models.

    THanks again

    George

I should get it by sunday with a clean install and Acronis images made to the drive :)

Thanks for the help so far

    :)
