    I ordered my third Vostro laptop on Thursday of last week. It was delivered on Tuesday of this week. No faults or errors found so far. Why can't it always be like this????? The previous two orders took far too long in "pre-production".
    I have to say, Dell did impress me this time. I, coincidently, had a loose key on one of my other laptops. A quick call & the new keyboard arrived the next day.
    At the moment I'm a happy customer.

    I ordered my laptop at 8 pm last night and then checked it about 30 minutes later and it already said in production. I never saw pre-production.....did I miss it or something?

    I guess they do since my m1330 FINALLY went into production after 13 days of being in pre-production, in a queue for parts because of the high demand; thanks to the massive January discounts.

    How do you tell what stage your laptop is in? I know how to see the order status as far as Preproduction-Production-Boxing-Shipping etc. but how can I tell if my system is being "kitted" or "built" or "tested" etc?

    You might have to actually talk to someone , going through the internet or ph order status using IR or customer number you dont get told any thing , only what stage it is in and your order is 'progressing' via the phone.

    I ordered mine on 23 Jan from UK and it is still in preproduction - for 2 weeks, someone ordered their xps 1530 right after NY's day and got it in 4 .
    The demand was probably huge due to dells Jan discounts , I saved 230 pounds on mine.
    I am resigned to the fact there is probably a delay , but I will see if something happends on feb 13 which was time of order completion , dont know if that includes delivery.

    does anybody know for europe and UK especially if dells completion dates are accurate from experiance ??

    I live in The Netherlands, and ordered two laptops on 26-1-2008:
    - 1 with 1280x800 display -> arrived 5-2
    - 1 with 1440x900 display -> still in phase 2 (pre-production) edd 15-2

    Dell has no 1440x900 displays in stock anymore. My order will probably be delayed until march. If that happens I will cancel the order and go for the Penryn...

    I called Dell and they confirmed that there were problems with some parts. They said that it wasn't only the screen (??). However I'll wait and see what happens.. Has anyone received a Dell m1530 with a 1440x900 display in the last few weeks ? I'm quite sure that this is not the case.

    Well I emailed customer services last night , they responded quite quickly i.e that night and they said that there was no delay to that screen and my laptop was IN production eta 13 Feb even though EMEA status showed only phase 2.

    Im a patient sort of a bloke , I can wait , but if there are futther delays past 3rd march I might get the allienware m15x for 200 quid more with the 8600M GT , as this is the mimium card you have to have for gaming , I think all the sonys have 8600 GS or 8400's , which arent that great.

    You're right about that. When was your order changed to 'in production (phase 3)'? Perhaps I should give it a couple of days and see if it goes into production...
