    Howdy folks

I'm planning on ordering a Vostro 1500. However, I'm not quite sure if I should wait until August for back-to-school sale. I just wanted to know how many weeeks (or days) do I get before I can cancel my order without being charged a penny. I want to use the awesome $215 discount right now, but I fear "better" deals might be out next month.
PS: The Vostro 1500 is under heavy demand

When do you need the laptop? Something better always comes out if you wait. The trick is simply to get a good deal on a PC and have the PC arrive shortly before you actually need it. The $599 price for the Smart Value 1500 will hold until the end of this month (Dell sent out printed Small Biz catalogs with the $599 price so they have to honor that config until at least August 1st). If you need a laptop in early August, I would just get in on a system you like now and you should get it roughly around early August. Also remember you can return the 1500 with no restocking fee and no return shipping charge for 30 days, so if an amazing new deal comes out, you have a lot of options even after you own the PC.

    Thanks ocellaris.
But, will Dell take back a sold item hassle-free, even if it is 30 days within purchase period? Do i need a big excuse to return it, or a simple "i don't like it anymore" will suffice?
Btw, is anyone aware of how I could delay my shipping by few weeks? The reason being, I want to order a 1500 right now but I DON'T want it to be shipped (& essentially charged for it) until early September. I want to scour the back-to-school deals in August.

Dell does not want you to return the PC, and sometimes when you mention a return, you get transferred to someone ("resolution specialist") who attempts to give you free stuff to prevent the return. At that point, you can see if they offer you something good, or just end the haggling quick with something like "We need an AMD PC to test on, this is unusable" and they give up. Anyway, I've never had a problem returning anything to Dell for myself, friends, family, or work.

    Thanks again.
But, could you shed light on how I could delay my shipment until early September, while ordering now? Is it even possible? Oh, and are those 30 days counted from shipment dispatch date or shipment arrival date? It takes atleast a week for a dispatched item to arrive.

You probably wont get a back to school deal on a Vostro because they are in the business line. However, if you are planning to look at other notebooks/Inspirons then it might be better to wait...

To delay...Maybe put a hold on your credit card?

Please comment in threads where you know what you are talking about. It is 30 days for Vostro PCs.

Just cancel the order you have now and re-order something later if this is really a huge issue. You have at least 12 days on the $599 1500 systems. You could just order on the last day and see what happens from there. Dell does not offer scheduled delivery like this for one PC purchased through Small Biz.
