Here's a brief summary of my situation. I placed an order for an M1330 on December 17, 2007, it arrived 3 days later on the 20th. I liked the notebook, except for the headache causing high pitch noise it made. I contacted customer service and they sent me a new system which arrived the next day. It had a newer revision motherboard which was supposed to fix the problem, but it didn't. I decided I just wanted to get my money back. I expected a hassle, but after contacting customer service again, they emailed me a couple of UPS shipping labels a few hours after I spoke with them on the phone. I dropped them off at the UPS store on January 7th, the UPS tracking info shows they arrived on January 9th. I didn't get an email until January 17th acknowledging that they received the notebooks. The email stated I would have a refund in 7-14 business days. I have yet to receive a refund.
I had been out of town for a few days, just getting home yesterday. I checked my email hoping to see an email saying I had a refund, but there was no such thing. I logged onto dell.com, found a link on the customer service page to check the status of a refund. It wanted an order number, which I had two, one for the original system and a 2nd from the replacement. I tried the first number, but I got a page saying there was an error or something. I tried the 2nd number, but got the same error. I clicked the link to look up my customer data, and when I entered everything there, it showed 4 order numbers. No matter which number I tried, I received the error.
I figured I would wait and call them this morning, but later yesterday I got an email from Dell saying they had received my inquiry about the status of my credit and I would receive an email within 24 hours. A few hours later someone did reply, I had to explain the ordeal to them, provided them with every order number, customer number, etc. I had. I received a reply within a few minutes and the person said that my refund request was in process and could take up to 16 business days (not 7-14 as stated from their email acknowledgment receipt of the packages).
It has been 18 business days since they received the notebooks, but if I go by the date of the acknowledgment email, it has only been 12 business days. That's fine, I'll just have to wait a few more days, or so I thought.
I got another email today from a different person at Dell saying they'd received my request for the status of my credit (apparently each time I filled out that form it sent an email even though it gave me an error). This one said that he saw that the issue was resolved earlier citing a reference number from the email exchange yesterday, except now they says that I will have a refund within 16 business days from yesterday (Feb. 4).![]()
I was surprised at how fast they got the system here from the time I ordered it. I was surprised at how quick and easy it was to get a replacement because I wasn't happy with the first one. I was surprised that they didn't give me a hassle when I said I just wanted to send it back for a refund. Up until then, I was impressed with Dell's customer support, now I know it was all too good to be true.
I sold my old notebook to my sister after I got the Dell. Now I'm stuck without a notebook until Dell decides to refund my money.

I returned a laptop 2 weeks ago, and 3 days after i gave it to UPS they credited my money back to me. Dell had not even received the laptop yet.
-
How did you pay? I had $1100 in my PayPal account, so I payed with PayPal and had the rest come out of my bank account. I check every day, but still nothing.

Well I requested my refund on the 15th January and still waiting...
It has now been processed and I have a letter saying it has been done but no money in my account yet, they said it will be here by Wednesday at the latest but i'm not too optimistic about it. -
Same boat here, dell seems to take forever on their refunds. I used a credit card for my purchase. They received the laptop 3 weeks ago and I still haven't received a refund.
Seriously considering calling my credit card company and forcing a charge reversal or something. Refunds just shouldn't take this long.
Will Dell pay the interest on the amount being held? -

Ask your CC company and do it without further delay. Dell does take their time and will only correctly recitify the situation if pressure is put on them to do so.
Returned 2 systems a while back. No reply of receipt or processing of refund, even after I inquired more than once. Gave a month and then checked my CC and found a couple of partial refunds of weird amounts. Gave more time, and nothing. Called AMEX and opened a dispute on the remaining amount. Refunded ASAP.
More recently, had an order canceled by Dell FOR NO REASON. Used Preferred Account to purchase. Was told the order didn't go through- essentially like it never happened. Whatever BS. Reordered and set up automatic payments.
Didn't think anything more of it until I checked out Dell weeks later. Good thing that the DPA account balance shows up as a link at the top of the page if you sign into Dell.
Immediately emailed, as I didn't have time to be on the phone during that period. No response. Had time later on and called. Rep put me on hold as she researched the reason. Came back and said it was for that "non-purchase" 6 weeks ago that should not have been on there. Put me on hold again, as she had to get a supervisor to authorize clearance. Cleared.
Wonder how long that "balance" would have been there if I didn't catch it? If I didn't reorder and set up payments on it, my account would have been hit with a late charge for non-payment and EASILY giving reason to report me as a credit risk.
Oh, for those who think that you need to be repeatedly late with payments before you're reported to any of the 3 credit reporting agencies, or OTHER CC COMPANIES, that isn't the case. All it can "possibly" take is 1 time before your account is flagged and word sent out to your other CC's (if any) that you may be a credit risk. They do have the option of raising your "fixed" APR at any given time with due notice given to you. Even if you have excellent credit and history with your other lines of credit. -
I am still waiting. I have been sick so I have not been on their case like I would if I weren't feeling like crap and hallucinating. I called today, and gave the CS rep my original order number, and at first she said it showed that a credit had been issued on Jan 12. I told her I didn't have it. She asked for both tracking numbers for the two systems, then she put me on hold for a bit.
When she came back she said there was a problem because I shipped the original system and the replacement back at the same time, and when they processed the first system, it issued a refund, then canceled it when they processes the 2nd system. She said it will be 8 more business days before I will have my refund.
I'm going to be going out of town the first week of march, so it doesn't look like I will have a notebook to take with me. Thanks a lot Dell. -
I finally recieved my refund yesterday morning.
They sure as hell aren't getting my money ever again. -
I finally got my refund from Dell today, 42 days (30 business days) after they received it, not even close to the 7-14 days they claimed.
-

-
