I'm eagerly awaiting my new e1505 to come in, and was just wondering how long the "testing" phase was for some of you.

    Yes I'm bored.

    :)

48 hours. In the old days of my computer purchasing (since 1988), there was a diagnostic phase and 'burn in period'. I wonder if they still do stuff like that. I thought it lasted a week but my recall may be incorrect.

When you order a dell, it lets you track your computers status. It has several phases. Mine was in testing, but is now in boxing. Apparently that takes about 3 days, then they ship it. (3 days is the time it takes to get shipped to the US from malaysia)

My i6400 went through kitting, build, and testing within 24 hours of ordering it. I'm waiting on the boxing phase right now.

Boxing I can confirm takes 3 business days as well almost to the minute from the time that little check gets made by testing. For some reason no one at Dell seems to want to tell you why it takes 3 days, you'll even notice that little link you can click while waiting on "Boxing" will tell you after testing the system is sent to boxing and units are usualy shiped the next day (not 3 days). I'd say JohnnyR is exactly right, it takes three days to get from Malaysia where they are built to the US where they are shipped to you.

Once they are actually shipped they get to you pretty fast, the last one I bought with 3-5 day shipping was here the next day after the status on the Dell website said shipped. I actually got it before I even got the tracking number. WHich caught me off gaurd actually since I hadn't planned for anyone to be home to recieve it and someone has to sign for it when it comes. I think they try 2 times and if no one is there both times to sign they send it back. I ended up calling the shipping company (I think it was FedEx) and had the driver leave it at their local FedEx terminal so I could just pick it up myself after work.

Mine went into boxing about 8 hours ago, lets see if it takes the 3 days. If we are right, we should all get a cookie and/or free m170.

Testing - Systems are received into testing for Dell designed diagnostic testing and software download. This includes 200+ titles available in Dell's software library, as well as proprietary and commercial packages, as requested by DellPlus Customers. Upon successful completion of Testing, the system moves to the boxing phase.

Yeah, all testing really means is that they're dumping all their junk software onto your hard drive. I'll vouch for exactly three days boxing though - mine took almost exactly that long (didn't check it down to the minute, but it was close). It now says it was shipped and should arrive tomorrow. Woohoo.
