I really want to narrow the dependability of these Dell laptops down to check whether to get standard or accidental warranty. Thanks for voting ;)

    Statistics:

~10% of laptops need servicing in a year. ~40% of laptops need servicing in 4 years.
All based highly on the competency of the user.

Edit: I'm the only person who can read the comments for the rep you send me.

I'm afraid the Dell I got from the Outlet only had a 90 day warranty, and both the battery and the RAM crashed within a year. :(

I wished I had paid for a longer warranty.

I've never had a Dell outright die on me.

1999 Latitude C400 still works 9 years down the line (albeit being stored for half that time).

2003 Inspiron 500m still works 5 years down the line, and that's still being used.

Also have a 2000 Latitude C600 in working condition, though I don't know how heavily it was used.

    It's hard to say...
I still have HP Pavilion 3295 with Pentium III 600MHz finally hinges broke but still boothing strong with 20 GB HD and 192MB of RAM here at the office, but the Toshiba A135-2276 I bought from Best Buy went to service center twice for the mobo replacement in 7 months and now at the some poor soul at ebay. I think it's crap shoot.

My Inspiron 5150 I had for 4 years by some divine miracle. Dell service is actually pretty good and the only problem I ever had was my hard drive died and it was easily replaced (it did help that the class action suit gave me basically a new free warranty ;) ).

So were both of my sons 5150's and one was from the outlet and the other wasn't. We've had them and they are working fine. for 4 years.
