    How long do I need to wait?

    I ordored a 1530(T9300, midnight blue, LED LCD, 8600M GT) on 8/16. Original est ship date was 9/11, but i just got an email saying it's delayed and the new est ship date is 10/7. Has anybody waited that long? I mean if they can't keep up with the order why bother putting up the sale. I know I can cancel it but this is really not good. Why is wrong with Dell now? I am in US(New York.)

    i'm waiting for a friend's m1730 and its taking longer than i expected too

    normally dell ships out computers fast for me anyway

    Do NOT cancel. they give you such a late date to make sure they have enough leeway if anything hinders their delivery ability. Personal example: i orderd my m1530 on August 12th 2008, my E.D.D. was September 5. I received it August 20th. Just call in to check your order status through the phone, in my experience the phone order status is more up to date than the internet one. Mine was eternally in the "build stage" online, but on the phone it was already in boxing haha.

    I have been waiting about 36 days and my ESD is still 5 more days away and then I am sure they will give me a new ESD.

    Don't cancel!!!! Unless you really don't want the lappy... :( I hope you would..once you receive your 1530...you are going to be really happy with it! :D :cool:

    ESD's are always over-projected to cover any prob's within the production process...If you cancel and reorder..it will push your build/delivery time out even further. :eek:

    How is it being shipped? Standard? Next Day? If, it's not being shipped Next Day to you, I would call and ask your rep to please *bump* you ~ at no charge to Next Day shipping....They did this for me! Just let them know that you were hoping for the original shipping date, not the latest ESD...pushed out even further. ;) :)

    well, you COULD cancel and wait another few weeks to get another laptop. OR you could wait the 5 (most likely less) days and get your laptop that you originally had your mind set on.

    email them saying i need the laptop now for college or i will cancel and buy a mac book pro and get a free iPod before sept 15th, it worked for me...the guy emailed saying We are EXPEDITING your order SIR

    Same happened to me :( Not as bad though since my order date was 8/26. My original Est. Ship date was also 9/11 but I got the dreaded email today telling me my new Est. Ship date is 10/8.

    What was worse was that I originally thought the email was gonna say it shipped since I signed up for the email notification, but boy was I wrong :mad:

    I thought about calling and threatening to cancel just to see if I can get something extra like a free printer or bag or something but decided since I got such a good deal(most likely due to their mistake) I'm gonna keep my mouth shut and patiently wait.

    Like Cin said, it will be worth the wait. Once it FINALLY arrives, then you'll be spending all your time complaining about grainyness, hard drive noise, poor fit and finish, slow to respond touch-sensitive volume button, short battery life, etc. So a positive side to waiting so long is that you get to also delay complaining about your computer and getting pissed off at Dell Tech Support.

    Odered 8/30, projected ship date is 9/17 I hope it goes out then. I've been checking the 1-800 number for automated order status and it's been saying it's in the build stage for like over a week now

    Pontine, for a guy who is on these forums, you sure do b***h a lot. I doubt youll have complaints. Grainyness is something tech support is familiar with, so getting a techy out to your place wont be a problem, i called in and they came the next day and are very easy to talk to and are very helpful.

    The fit and finish: the fit is amazing, finish is beautiful. about 14 of my friends have m1530's, none of them have a single cosmetic defect. hard drive noise is kinda common, the clicking noise from when its working (esp a high rpm drive) is expected. i havent heard of anybody having a "SLOW TO RESPOND" touch sensitive button, it doesnt make sense for there to be a delay in the touch controls. battery life is good, i keep mine on dell recommended with a usb powered notebook cooler and can squeeze out about 3 hours and 10 min.

    keep your negativity to yourself.

    I'm not sure you guys actually get it. The OP ordered his laptop nearly a month ago. A month after ordering it, the estimated ship date has been pushed out another month. One month is already too long a wait.

    In fact, I ordered one on 8/17 with a 9/11 ship date as well. Just like OP they've pushed it back to ~10/7. His questions make a lot of sense: why does it take two month to build a laptop out of prefabricated parts? Does Dell really think doubling the lead time is reasonable? Less specifically: what the hell is taking so long?

    Yeah, I think everyone missed the point. They are acting like he just ordered it a week ago. He's been waiting a month, as have I. I ordered a day before he did, and have been waiting too. I got the same e-mail saying it'll be delayed until 10/7. We haven't been waiting as long as somekevinguy, but it's still been a long time. You guys aren't really helping by saying it's an overestimate, and that you guys received it a week after ordering even when you got a ship date that was weeks afterwards. We're trying to figure out why the hell it's taking so long, especially because others have gotten theirs in a timely manner (i.e. less than a month).

    I called today to find out that the LCD LED screen is delaying the order another 8 to 10 business days. But plenty of people who ordered the same time as me, who ordered both the LED and non LED screens have received their orders before me, yet I have to wait another month. It's really frustrating since I really needed it 2 weeks ago, and have been using a desktop that's almost a decade old. If I had known it was going to take so long, I would have just bought something at Costco. I don't understand why they allow people to order when they know there's a huge back order for parts that will stretch for months.

    After this kind of experience, I'm not sure if I will buy from Dell again. Rep after rep guaranteed me that I will get it on or before my original ship date, that was already a month after I ordered.

    I just got off the phone with a lovely Ms. Rashkijuheronmekachabinlebeona at Dell support. I tried the whole "I'm starting college soon" thing without success. It was a lie anyway; I started this year's courses about four weeks ago.

    I'm going to give it another week to ship, then I'll cancel.

    Well I actually just got another voicemail today. They didn't delay my order again YET. This time she just called to say the Blu-ray drive is out of stock which I had already been told and the web cam is out of stock. She mentioned again that she had put in an expedite request for my order. She also said she was sending me an email too but I haven't seen that. I am assuming if you guys got bumped back to 10/7 for the LED screen that I will eventually be bumped to that date too. My laptop might literally be obsolete before I even receive it and the IMO awesome deal I got will probably be the normal price by then. I definitely wish I would have waited to buy my WD 320GB 7200 HD. The price on that has already dropped $10 since I ordered it and it is still just sitting here on my desk waiting for my laptop.

    When I canceled and reordered, the estimated shipping date got pushed back WAY beyond the original. But Dell also told me that BECAUSE I canceled and reordered, once it was built, the computer would be shipped using 1-day shipping. As it turned out, the computer was not built in almost 1 month (the estimated shipping date) but in only 3 days.

    My point here is that with a cancel/reorder, not only would shipping be speeded up, but MAYBE building the computer might also be speeded up, despite the estimated shipping time.

    Maybe it's worth a try.

    If I did that, I'd be the one still waiting in January :p When you reordered, did you order the same configuration or did you drop some of the goodies? The entire reason I chose the 1530 is because it's broken in (I originally bought an HP dv7t and had a horrible time of it), the video card is a strong midrange, and the LED screens are supposed to be incredible (the dv7t ccfl was just ****-poor).

    it was ordered on the 8/31 but changed on 9/6 is expected to ship on 9/29
    but the salesman said disregard the ship date it will ship the same as original ship date.......for some reason, I don't trust him

    I called dell to get in inside view of the order and the person basically just went to dell.com and got the same information I've been looking at for days lol

    I'm freaken bored without my gaming laptop!! :D

    Just got the email saying my order got delayed too! Ordered 8/30/08, ESD 9/17/08, new ESD 9/24/08. Delayed by a week which isn't too bad compared to some of you that got pushed back to October. I wouldn't be surprised if it got pushed back again when the 24th comes along. Man, somekevin guy is right, my laptop will literally be not a good deal anymore when it finally comes in, haha.

    yea my order date was 8/29 original ESD 9/17 i emailed on the 15th cause i was still in the build stage so i didnt think it would ship by the 17th and the next day a rep said everything was still on track and it was being sent over to Texas right now, well right after that i called again and it was in the testing and then like an hour later boxing so i emailed saying o ok its in boxing now so it should ship tomorrow right? that night the person emailed back saying yea its scheduled to ship the 17th with no delays, well today i call and its still in boxing and i check my email and lo and behold its been delayed to the 24th. Since its already in the boxing stage i sure hope they just did this as a precaution and it will still ship in a day or so, but i did email them a few times saying i drastically needed this laptop before this weekend for school purposes (which is a total lie) the first time the email person said for security reasons they cant change it, but that was before i got the delay email so i sent another after the delay saying how upset i was that they told me yesterday it was ready to ship tmr and now its not and how for the inconvenience i would appreciate overnight or even next day shipping to help alleviate the delay. Hopefully this time ill get a better response cause i really dont wanna have to call and explain the story to 10 different Indian reps......im in Michigan BTW.

    o and just to point out, half of the email responses i got from them were just them telling me exactly what is on the website and how i can check it myself, like i havent already even though i said right in my emails i had been checking the website and calling the hotline. I really think they just give generic responses written down in a handbook somewhere. I honestly cant think of a security reason that prevents them from upgrading my shipping method before it has even shipped.

    I just got an email saying my order has been delayed till 10/10. I ordered on 8/30 ESD was also 9/17. When I call the order status line it says it's in the boxing stage. It better not take three weeks to pack it up and ship it. Seriously ***!!

    What does it mean when your ESD disappears? Mine is still in the boxing stage and up until this morning the ESD was today. Now it says "that's all the information I have right now." Should I expect a delay email soon?

    Mine did that too, but its still doing it hopefully mine will ship soon too then, im already 2 days past the original ESD and the dell reps wont do **** for me in terms of compensation. Anyone know a good way to get them to bump your shipping up to overnight? Emailing them and complaining about needing it for school doesnt work, is there better luck in calling them? Half the time they cant understand me nor I them over the phone

    yea i just called mine still says boxing stage and wont give any more information, but i did receive a delay email of a week yesterday, i am so angry at dell right now, the least they could do if afford to pay for better shipping but they wont even do that.

    I mean i understand all of the delays when people are still in the build stage because they wont ship over to the US til a quota is met, but mine has been in the US for a few days now the last time i got a laptop from dell it took about a day in the boxing stage then shipped this is ridiculous.

    According to my tracking information my shipment originated in TN, but I guess this could just be a hub for international shipments.

    To recap:
    Order date: 8/17
    Original ESD: 9/11 (seriously)
    Revised ESD: 10/7
    Date Shipped: 9/17

    If it wows me- if the LED screen is as awesome as everyone says, and the build quality is up to par- I'll be very pleased. Otherwise I'm sending it right on back :p

    Yea i think when it comes from malaysia it goes to Texas first to be boxed up and then Tennessee is where they ship it out, cause my last laptop, the studio, was sent from Tennessee too. I dont even know where mine is at the moment the last i checked it was on its way to Texas they said right before it switched to the boxing stage. I sure hope everything is on par with this, build quality it why i sent back my studio and ordered this, the plastic was very flimsy on that and already showed weak spots in the build. Thats weird that ur original ESD was earlier than mine but your revised one is later, hmmm. Urs ended up shipping on the day mine was SUPPOSED to ship. When u get it let me know if you get any of the accessories too, im curious about that as well.

    Spoke to a rep today about my XPS M1530 order (ordered 9/11, ESD 10/8). Thought I'd give them a hard time about needing it so I could maybe get next day shipping on the house. Turned out it was no longer In Production (like it says on Dell.com) and that it's actually in the boxing stage. She explained the bottleneck right now is in shipping. That they anticipated the high volume for Sept orders, but there are loooooots of pallets of computers now in queue to be shipped out.

    The plastic thing is one reason I opted for the 1530 over, say, the Studio 17. The lower half of the XPS is clad in brushed magnesium, or something like that. Metal > Plastic, though it probably adds weight.

    My notebook is bouncing around in GA at the moment :p Not sure what that's about. Last time I checked, TN and NC (my location) share a border. Should be here tomorrow, regardless.

    I rarely post however I have a similar situation.

    Ordered M1530: 9/1
    ESD: 9/16
    Revised ESD: 9/29

    I had called customer support a while back when they were offering the mini 9 for $100 with the purchase of a new computer. I wanted to see if I could combine offers and (not surprisingly) they told me that I couldn't. However it was worth a shot because the guy I got said he would take over my order and look out for it for me. Not really knowing what that meant I agreed.

    He sent me an email the day after I called him and told me that he had upgraded my shipping to overnight at no charge. Great I thought. However on 9/16 I received an email saying that my system won't ship for another 2 weeks!!

    I couldn't believe that, I was calling the same rep who promised to look out for my order, hoping he could give me a freebie for my trouble. He wasn't available so I left a voicemail and he emailed me the next morning saying that my system would ship out in the next 1-3 days, which is an acceptable delay, not 2 weeks...

    This came as a shock to me as the other two Dell systems I have ordered this year both shipped about a week before ESD. Anyways just wanted to share my saga.

    yea i just checked tonight through the phone and its apparently shipped finally but nothing has been posted yet about a tracking number or anything so i dont even think its made it to the courier yet which means it def wont make it by tomorrow since the *******s at dell wouldnt let me upgrade it to overnight shipping.

    Finally, mines has shipped out too! It appears that for those of us that had original ESD of 9/17/08 and had it delayed to 9/24/08 or even later got shipped out today when Dell finally got off their @$$es and shipped them out. My order has been in boxing stage for a week. I'm not hoping for accessories to be included, but I will give them a call for some compensation because it was what made the M1530 more appealing to buy.

    No update on a tracking #, just says "Data Temporarily Unavailable." It's all good though, it finally shipped!

    yeah my original ESD was 9/17 then they delayed to 10/10. I check today and it shows as shipped, which is cool but were they trying to spike my blood pressure with the revised date?

    yea mine has shipping information through DHL express, but it just says data received on the website and doesnt show any progress yet, im assuming it should make it from TN to MI in a day since it did before, but i doubt it will ship from the Michigan regional store to my house with the courier til monday, i wonder if they will let me go pick it up from their place tomorrow if it arrives then cause id rather go get it myself than wait the weekend for them to ship it, the office isnt very far from where i live

    Well, I just got mine, and I must say I'm impressed. The build quality is top notch. I found none of the little defects which plagued the dv7t, the LED screen is bright and...very good. A little too much blue, but I still have to fiddle with the color balance. The slot drive and hard drive are relatively quiet. It boots quickly and runs well even on the (soon to be replaced) 5400rpm hdd. I didn't get any extra goodies, but I didn't really expect to.

    I think DHL is stupid or something.. Tracking # shows that my package had "arrived" at the DHL Station near my house and that the delivery day won't be until the 9/23. I wanted to pick it up asap because I don't want to wait three days when it's already at the station near my house. I called up DHL and they said that the package is still on its way to the DHL Station near my house (I thought it had already "arrived" there as stated in the tracking info..) First Dell's system is kinda screwy and off, now DHL.. man these companies should get their act togeter.. but anyways, I should have my laptop on the 9/23!!

    Yea Friday my system was still on transit and i called DHL to see if it would make it to the station near me by close friday so i could pick it up myself then and not have to wait til monday for them to deliver it, but the guy said it wouldnt make it there til monday but would also ship to me monday too so i was like ok i guess i have to wait, well friday night/early saturday morning sometime it says it has arrived at the station near me, and so i checked and the place is open on saturdays they just dont do shippings on weekend so i thought o ok ill go get it today before they close, but when i called a customer service rep said i still couldnt get it because it wouldnt be sorted til Monday and i guess they wouldnt go get it for me although im sure it couldnt have been that much trouble, i mean im saving them gas not having to drive to my house to deliver it, but o well im still getting it tomorrow according to them.
