How long does it really take?

I ordered a xps M140 laptop from dell yesterday, March 9th, and now it says its already in the testing process of the prodiction phase. I wanna know, how long did other people's laptops take, cuz I read the testing phase and it seems like it should be done in a few hours with that. It currently has a ship date of friday the 17th, but it seems like its gonna ship way earlier.

How long did other dell laptops take people from oredering to shipping?

 

I ordered mine from the outlet on the 7th and it shipped on the 8th.....

 

Dell has a tendancy of over delivering. They will put a delivery date of 3 weeks from now and deliver in two.

 

It should be shipped withing a day or two of getting into testing. They have had problems with boxing from time to time. Mine sat in testing for almost a week but that is not common from what I have heard.

 

It took them 10 day from the order bieng placed to me recieving it

 

My M170 took 6 days from order to doorstep!

 

After testing, it will take about 2-3 business days for boxing. Then depending on where you live, it is another 24 hours to transfer from dell to your shipping carrier (status will say shipped though, but tracking number shows nothing).

 

I ordered mine on the 5th, it was shipped on the 9th. Its already in the UPS facility in the area where I live.
I gave my work address as the shipping address so that they don't have to leave a notice at my doorstep.
Today I was trying to find out whether I can pick it up from UPS's facility(instead of waiting till monday), but this is the thing :

SINCE ITS A PACKAGE FROM DELL, UPS HAS TO MAKE ATLEAST ONE ATTEMPT TO DELIVER!!!!!!!! HOW STUPID IS THAT.

I was trying to get the package earlier hence I asked whether I can pick it up myself instead they making an attempt. But I can't. So now I have to wait till monday to get my machine. Wud have loved to experiment over the weekend.

So much for the best business practises by the best companies.What a great service by the best companies ( DELL & UPS)..........

 

Mine started on the 9th of march and they say is done on the 10 of april. Pretty Fak up waiting, i believe.

 

Well I ordered mine Thursday night, and they are already in the boxing phase, now I gotta wait til monday for any status update. So I'm hoping maybe Friday next week i receive it

 

I was told that dells laptops are put together in Malaysia. They are put together, then shipped over to the US. It usually takes about a week for dell to build it, then a couple days later it leaves Malaysia, then when it gets to the US, it takes 3-5 days usually to get to you. Then sent to UPS or Fedex, to be delivered to you.

 

i got my 9300 during the christmas season 3 days earlier than they stated. It's a plesant surprise

 

I think there shipping dates are a little overestamated. It usually doesn't take as long as they say it will. I think they make the ship date like 1 week longer then it usually takes. Then when It gets to you early, the customer is happy.

Got mine inside of a week of ordering.

 

I ordered my E1705 on 2/26 and recieved it on 3/6, so about 8 days - not bad at all.

 

I recently ordered an E1705 and it took exactly 7 days from the day I placed the order to when it was sitting in my doorstep. It took much less time than I thought!

 

That's good to hear. I ordered my M170 on Friday 10th. I have an ETA of 27th, for 11 business days.

Were you talking business days or 6 days total?

 

Well mine shipped today, pretty impressive of dell considering I ordered mine thursday night.

 

Nice...so you should have it in your hands this week. It usually takes 3 days, so on Wednesday/Thursday, you should have it. Congrats.

 

Just as long as I get it before the weekend.....I should give me time to get rid of all that extra stuff the put on there.

 

I ordered mine on Saturday March 4, received it on Friday the 10th.

 

Ordered today via Dell Outlet, shipped today....or so it says, I didn't get a tracking number yet. :/

 

UPS said mine should be arriving today, which means 6 days from order to doorstep

 

UPS SUCKS. My laptop has been out for deliverary since wednesday, makes me wonder if someone is using it for fun.

 

Call UPS and tell them their tracking is wrong. Tell them you system didn't get delivered and tell them to make it right. Doesn't hurt to call and get status.

 

As another data point: Ordered 3/16, delivered 3/21 = 6 days

My estimated ship date was originally 3/23.

I actually ordered late on 3/15. Since a bunch of Dell coupons expired the next morning, my VISA provider got so many transactions from Dell that it choked and started rejecting them. So my order didn't process until 3/16, but they still honored the coupon.

I'm sure I'll be back with questions.

 

It depends.

I ordered an i6000 3/16, order processed etc done by 3/18(ship date). At my door 3/21 10am. Since model is now discontinued, all parts and even complete systems were probably already at the distribution facility in TN ready for shipping.

Paid $734 for a Centrino 1.86M,X300 128 ATI,8X DVD Burner,512 RAM. Expecting $22 cash back from fatwallet in July.

Although this order was quick, the shipping is nothing compare to the $379 Compaq V4000T that I ordered earlier this month. Shipped(free) from CN 3/14 at my doorstep on 3/16 9am(drop shipped from vendor to my door ). Since HP did not meet the ETA ship date of 3/10, I was given another $50 coupon for future purchase.

 

I order mine, on the 9 of march, finnish In production 15 of march, ship date? 13 of april to 17 of april, waiting one month writing in this forum, imagining how my laptop is goin to be? Priceless ( more frustradyng though ).

 

hey blues did you order yours with the nvidia card? or the ati? because my replacement order didn't get through until march 15th - but it says it should ship today - but that seems VERY doubtful...

anyone know if the chat reps have the same information as the voice reps? because they all seem clueless to me...

 

Mine order is the 7800 go one, i ordered 9 of march so the geforce 7800go was available for that moment.

 

I order my 1300 on Mar.15 and until now (Mar.26), I still haven't got it.....;(

 

My e1505 should be here tomarrow (its been in Phoenix for at least 2 days, but its the weekend. I can't wait. It is gonna be my first laptop and it is gonna be my main computer as well (My comp now has a 667 mhz processor! and 128 mb of ram!... Can you say "slow"?).
