Hey, I'm just wondering about how long does it take for an inspiron 1420, 1520, and 1330 to boot?
-
ill check right now
-
ok 45 seconds from pressing the power button to when everything is loaded including mcafee and the wireless network connected
-
wow, isn't that slow? or isn't it?
-
I don't think so. I hope not lol
-
It is. If you slim down Vista (like I have with previous versions of Windows) and use a fast Anti-Virus (NOD32 is both fast and effective), you can get boot times of 10 seconds.
-
really? hmm what do you mean by slim down?
-
So you're saying from the hit of your power button to your desktop screen you get 10 seconds? Did you change drivers and get rid of bloatware? Thats what I'm guessing.
-
Are you kidding? 10 seconds? Forget Vista, even XP doesnt boot in 10 seconds.
-
Woah, ok 45 seconds thanks, that seems about fair! 10 seconds!?! woah how the hell did you do that?
-
Is it a contest ?
-
ok....i have everything slimmed down on my system and i get atleast 45 secs to the login screen...and then maybe 20 or 30 secs to finish loading(where the HD stops whirring)
is there something im missing? or is it because i only have a gig of ram(i already ordered an extra gig) -
yea it sounds like the extra gig will probably do it. I'm glad to see tho that around 45 secs is pretty average for vista
-
Wow what a coincidence my Bugatti Veyron goes from 0-150mph in that same amount of time
-
wow if you actually have that car can I have $100000? thx
-
Haha it was a joke, i was mocking his pretty outlandish statement about the speed of his boot up, with the outlandish claim that I own the most expensive/fastest production car ever made
-
damn I needed money lol
-
Haha, Lol.
My boot up time, in XP with normal start-up, anti virus and wirelss, it's anywhere from 30-45 seconds depending on whether im on battery or not
Note: I have formated and reinstalled everything...which is an amazing help. -
10 seconds? it takes like 3-5 seconds to get past the Dell post screen after pressing the power button.
-
can't you put vista into hibernate mode like you can in xp?
-
yep thats what I do so its like a 5 second boot up really
-
The biggest slowdown for a system is heavy anti-virus like Norton.
I think Vista's "Sleep" option is set to some funky sleep/hibernate setup, like sleep after I press the power button in the start menu, and then after 3 hours, the system hibernates. It only takes a few seconds to load 2048MB from the hard disks. That how I get 10 seconds. -
Thats not really a fair comparison then...
-
Well... we are talking about from boot not from sleep. When you said it was 10 secs. that was deceiving.
-
Power button to desktop in just under 30 seconds, and about another 15-20 to load my autostart prgrams (avast, Azureus, Random Desktop, Notebook Hardware Control).
How long does it take yours to boot?
