Hey. Thinking of ordering and wanted to know if I'd be able to catch the Back-to-School deals in my price match guarantee if I ordered tomorrow or not.

If anyone knows that, or about when the Back-to-School deals start up generally, I'd really appreciate the help.

    Thanks in advance.

It all depends on how far the rep is willing to go, some say none, some say until your order is shipped, some say 20 days. You need to ask the rep ;)

I've heard the 20-day thing, myself... 21, actually. It would be really nice to find it in writing, somewhere. Bah.

I ordered one today and the rep said 21 days. But, I was wondering about the same thing: when does the back-to-school deal start?

Is that 21 days from the day you order, or from when it ships, do you know? Because if it's from when you order, you can always do the cancel/reorder thing; they make you do that instead, in fact.

I would say from the day you order. I thought you can't cancel/change your order when it ships?

It wouldn't be a change to the order, it would be to the price. They could still give you money back on your credit card order.

How does that work? You just tell them the new price? Or, they'll have to figure it out themselves? Some reps I talked to today didn't seem to have any idea about the price drops. :-/

Yeah man, I don't know. All speculation on my part, until I find out from a rep. Hopefully going to a kiosk tomorrow, so we'll see.

After a lot of searching, I found some information on price protection on the Dell website. Dell officially says that they don't do price matching, or have a price protection plan. Out of courtesy to their customers, they will refund the price difference within 30 days of the invoice date if the drop is over $50. This is to US customer only, and doesn't include promotions, coupons, etc. So this would be on the base price only it appears. The customer has to request the price review from Dell, and this is an alternative to the 21 day return policy. Your mileage may vary.

The actual problem that I have, is the Dell Home prices have gone down (ordered through EPP) and I can get the same machine plus CompleteCare + LoJack AND 7200RPM HDD upgrade for the same price...but I don't think they can/will do anything about that, but I'm gonna try tomorrow.

You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. Thanks.

Anyone think that the "free" RAM and hard drive are to prevent people from getting the refund when the back-to-school discounts kick in?

You can always reorder. That's a pretty big difference IMHO...

Yes, but my machine is shipping in 4-5 days w/ Next Day Air <_<

If I reordered, I'd lose my spot and have to wait like 2+ more weeks!

Ah, that is quite the pickle. Might be worth a call to see what the rep can do for you, at least.

Ag76, can you post where you found that information? I've been told that the only option is to reorder as well.

I don't know where AG76 found that, but I can say from personal experience I didn't have to re-order. They said after I got my invoice to call back w/ the case number they gave me and they'd credit me the difference

That's what I remember hearing. It's sounding like that's only if you catch the right rep, though.

What was the number at Dell you called? I talked to five people at Dell today tying to figure out how to get credit, and it was the fifth person who told me that it's possible to get a refund if the price had dropped. The other four either either transferred me to someone else, or told me that it wasn't possible to get the difference refunded.

You're probably right about the rep, and I didn't get the right one today.

Cancelled my existing order yesterday, and reordered with the 7200RPM drive, RAM upgrade, and CompleteCare for $50 extra dollars - Dell EPP honored the price of Dell Home, but I'm pretty sure I just got lucky...
