Hi, I recently buyed a Inspiron 1520 and I'm having the annoying static noise coming from the headphones jack (obviously didn't know about the problem before). I need a laptop right now but I'm pissed that Dell sell laptops with this known problem and want to return it, but I can wait weeks for a refund, so I want to know if anyone knows approximately how long takes to receive a refund from Dell?

    Thanks.

It takes 30 days. That is what has been reported and that is how long it took my refund from Dell.

It sounds like the days of the 1520 are numbered. There are many links on the net to a new leaked system, the 1525/26 to replace the 1520. It appears they are now moving the headphone jacks up to the front and also including an optional HDMI. Your smart, dump the 1520 while you still can. That system may ship as early as mid Dec.

It depends on various factors. On an average it is in the range of 2 to 6 business weeks. Sometimes restocking fees and shipping charges are also deducted by accident and you might have to call again for that to be refunded.

PS: I am quoting the worst case scenario.

You wont' pay restocking fees as long as you tell them about the problems.. and they know all too well about the issues with the 1520. I know many people here who waited a month to get their refund.. but I did not make a fuss over it. Maybe if you escalate the refund they can expedite it. Tell them you may buy a 1525 later if they do you right now.. be creative and maybe you can get a quick response.

I am in the same boat as you and hope that they refund in a reasonable amount of time. It should NOT take over 2 week (1 week for travel and 1 to process the refund). Only ~78% of the systems seem to be affected (I found a poll about it today) and unfortunately I fall into that percentage.

It's taken quite a while (at least almost three weeks) for Dell to even recieve my returned laptop, and now probably even longer for them to process the credit. I thank God the day I finally get my money back...I've already payed for a new system, and having this extra charge on the Card is bad...

It shouldn't take more than 10 to 15 minutes.

If you haven't been credited within, at the MOST, 60 minutes, I would definitely call and complain. Don't hang up until they deal with you. Keep escalating to a higher supervisor.

Thanks for your answers guys, I definitely returned mine yesterday, let's see how long it takes, I think that maybe I'll get now the Asus F3SV-A1 because I can't wait for Inspiron 1525.

okay if it is taking longer then about a week after they receive it call them and insist you want your refund. do not take no for a answer. they will go through the whole deal of well blah blah blah.. then tell them you need your credit to order the new system from them and you can not that if it takes to long, trust me they can escalate the return for you, out of 5 returned systems i have not seen one take longer than 10 days after they have received it.

Hey!, I received my refund yesterday so finally it took just 3 days after they received my return, that was fast!, I must say that at least Dell's customer service is a lot better than Quality Assurance department.

When Dell refunded my amount, they kept $0.01. They are refusing to credit it.
