I was just wondering how long a Studio 15 would last? I will have to do the 48 month payments and not really wanting to pay for it when i has already died. :(

    Thanks :D

dont take their monthly payment plan unless you wanna pay 9.99 % interest.

my credit line gives me 6 % , so i would save some bills in 4 years in interest :)

and i think its good enough to at least last 4 years

I would save up before buying a laptop so then you don't have to go through monthly payment and stuff. Most laptops are simply bought for personal use, so if this is your case, then wait till you can afford to buy the whole thing and not have to worry about all that wonderful interest.

as it is a very new line of laptop.....just over a month
it is very hard to say for sure....statistically how long it will last

if you want to take my personal history with dell's (actually my dad's) he has been using an ancient dell latitude for the past six years.....when he bought it, it was top of the line......and he only replaced it a month ago (with a very nice Latitude Tablet). The thing is, he had no problems with it except a small hard drive problem which was easily fixed by replacing it with a new OEM hard drive. My/our experience was very good.

However, many people have come to this forum and told tales of woe and anger at buying a now dysfunctional dell laptop.......

Point is, you can only take everyone's opinion/belief with a grain of salt...

I would recomend mowing lawns (30-50 dollars a mow) :)

As soon as you get 3 peoples lawns it is pretty good. Its better than a part time job because of no tax

I dont have a lawn mower and no one here will pay me. They like to get me to mow and not pay. :(

They also wouldn't ever pay $30 maybe if im lucky $10.

Drummer101 thank you for the suggestion

I can get a loan for being a student? And not a student loan for collage?

I cant get a loan from my parents because one is a drunk and my mom is $100,000 in credit card dept because of my drunk dad. And we are on welfare so I have a few road bumps. (And that's just the beginning of the road bumps)

 If you are so hard set, then why don't you contact goodwill or freecycle, or even craigslist online and look for an inexpensive used computer. You could even take out a small personal loan from a bank if you have an older friend or responsible relative that can cosign for you.

Otherwise, stop BS'ing the forum and wasting people's time. If what you are saying holds even one shred of truth then you really ought to find something better to do with your money, like move the hell out.

Also, being 17, you might not be able to get Financing from Dell or any other bank for that matter w/o a Cosigner who's got some good credit. And making $100 per month, I dunno if it's from a job or misc things around the community, but it wouldn't be the best descision to make, in my opinion. I'd wait to get a new computer until you've got a steady income. Like the guy above me said, you can go to Goodwill or Craigslist to find a good used computer. Might not be the most powerful or be able to run the latest games, but it will suffice for web browsing and schoolwork.

If you make $100 you're going way over budget, don't start getting in debt, worst idea ever. If you really need a laptop I suggest you buy a low end inspiron, they have 15'' base model going for 499 right on dell.ca, might find some coupons online. They have the new 13" coming out soon as well.

I babysit for the $100. Thanks for all the help. If I do go to craigslist (I have been there) then what kind of specs should I look for till I can afford to get a new laptop?

If you are donig general school work and web browsing. 1GHz, 512-1GB RAM, XP or Vista, and at least a 60GB hard drive. It'll have enough power to do Word, Power Point, Excel and browse the web easily.

If you are anything remotely close to liking technology... chances are within 48 months you will see a notebook that is more powerful and you will be more envious of so yes it will last a long long time.

However, if you like having the latest tech, or if you like paying cheap for the latest tech, 48 months is a long time and chances are something will catch your eye. With Montevina shrinking the motherboard by 25% and future Calpella might do even more shrinking, it is inevitable that laptops will get more powerful and lighter and most likely look sleeker as long as you have companies like Dell coming up with great designs.

Just a word of caution. If it were me, I'd think 48 months way too long. Of course you might not be tempted after 48 months, but just in case, I'd say 12 months is the best way to go.

have you tried dell outlet? 15 inch inspiron is a fine machine for sub $800...dont get caught up on a debt at your age with no reasonable income...in 4 years those kids you babysit for could have moved away or gotten old enough to stay alone cutting your income to $30 or something. why not check out the local grocery store, fast food, mall stores, ect, ect for a gig? Are you that far out in the sticks?

just do yourself a favor and dont get stuck with a bill at 9.9% that will immediately increase to 15-18% if you miss a payment...and at age 17 for 48 months, you WILL miss a payment. sorry to say it but you need to lower your standards for your laptop desires (not new, not the fastest) to get the best bang for your bucks...I make more than a $100 a month and still couldnt bring myself to buy my machine out right, no shame in maximizing your investments.

Yeah, I think you should pass.... just because 48 months is really a long time. In the 4 years time.... there will already be something that came out after 2 years (halfway through you paying back your notebook) that will be ridiculously cheap on year 3, let alone year 4.

You will probably feel remorse as over time, you see your notebook degrade in value and being sold at a very very low price, yet you have to continue paying for the notebook at its standard price....

It really isn't worth it. You should check out the Dell Outlet.

I can't get a real job because I have Fibromyalgia. I am waiting on someone else for another babysitting job. I get what your saying. My plan for 1 year from now to pay for it was because my mom is trying to go back to school to become a MT. she would be making anywhere from $3000-$5000 a month.

Ok I was thinking the same thing Forte. That's why im trying to think of a way to have the money so its paid for right now.
