Answer: There are not enough Dell technicians in the world to accomplish such a task.

They just keep botching my orders, sending me the wrong item over and over and over. How hard is it to send a 3 prong AC adapter with power cord?
Apparently as hard as changing a lightbulb.

I forgot my power cord adapter on a recent trip and ended up borrowing two different friends to recharge my battery. Both had the three prong plug which I had never seen before.

    Good luck with your order...

None! Not one of them are smart enough, anyway they still use candles in India. They have no clue what electricity is.

    Hello,

This is Richard from the Dell Online Community Outreach group. I believe the issue is our failing to properly communicate about the power plug standards. Our systems are now shipped with 2 prong adapters. This also applies to parts replacement as well. This should have been explained.

However, PM me your case number or dispatch number for one of the orders and I will see what I can do for you.

    Regards,

    Richard B

Nope, sorry Dell CA. I'm done with Dell. Too many botched orders, too many wrong items. I just spoke with a manager today, and just cancelled the order and got a refund.
Tracked it down to a problem in the shipping department at the warehouse, they aren't verifying that they are sending the correct item. Manager promised to go to the top with this, she told me that it's not hard (and they are supposed to) check what they are sending before it's shipped.
I'm done. No amount of apologies and promises can win me back to Dell now.
Especially, let me refer you to a link at Dell's website... http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=312-0578
That is the exact item I kept ordering. It specifically says, 3 prong AC adapter, power cord BUNDLED with it.
What did I keep recieving? A 2 prong AC adapter and NO power cord. Looks like they kept sending me this:
    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...=19&sku=310-7712&mfgpid=167675&chassisid=8448

In my orders, it was crystal clear that it was part # 312-0578 (refer to first link).
Sorry, but some heads need to roll at the shipping center. Regardless, I'm finished with Dell.

But I have to give credit where credit is due. My laptop is great, reliable, solid, not a single issue with it. All the managers I have spoken with, along with the customer support rep's have all been very kind, and genuinely tried to help with these issues. Alas, they couldn't do anything, but just keep reordering the same item, and the shipping center sending the WRONG item.
Been a real headache trying to resolve this, they've logged so many calls from me in the past 2 weeks.
Again, managers and reps have been great, kind, helpful. I have to give them that.
But the shipping department, well, there needs to be some firing IMHO.

Sorry to thread jack but is there any reason Dell switched to 2 prong instead? I assume it avoids the possibility of not being able to plug in if someone only has a 2 prong outlet, but is there no loss due to the missing ground pin?

I have always wondered since the output of the power brick is only two poles if that third pin actually does anything...

The third pin is the ground, so it wont use the laptop chassis itself as ground. And well, any newer home (after 1950 :p) should have a 3 prong outlet. The brick itself, on a 3 prong, has the 3 connectors that connect to a 3 prong outlet.
I bought it as a spare to have just in case, but also have read some reports, of people being shocked by their laptop using the 2 prong. Just wanted to cover my basis, and have a spare part while I was at it.

This guy on here claiming to be from Dell must have his a$$ and elbow confused. I have just recieved a new 1330 with a 3-prong, and I have ordered a couple of vostros within the past few weeks - also 3-prong's.

Don't know what he is talking about.....

WTF is the Dell Community Outreach group anyway and what do they do? Sound like a place for delinquent Dell users who have lost their way because of the ****ty service.

Well the point is, 2 prong or 3 prong, I ordered 3 prong, and consistently recieved a 2 prong, and NO power cable.

I guess Dell is trying to do a little damage control after all the negative comments regarding their customer service, now their lcd monitors, and other issues with their notebooks. Funny we don't see Sony, IBM/Lenovo, or any other company "community outreach group" here.
