My Vostro just shipped today :D and I'm planning on buying more memory with the Dell Dollars that came with the deal. From the factory, it will have 2 GB of mem and I want to upgrade it to 4GB.

The question is, how many slots does the Vostro have and does anyone know if the 2GB is x2 1GB sticks or a single 2GB stick. Thanks.

2 slots. One under the laptop, one under the keyboard.

Also make sure you get a 64bit OS if you plan to use all of the 4GB of ram.

    yeah.
I phoned up when I was buying my 1400 JUST because I wanted to get a single 2gb stick (rather than 2x1gb) but the guy just wouldnt do it.

Think I'm gonna sell my 2x1gb and buy a couple of 2gbs.

Often times Dell has an option for you to put in a 2x1 instead of 1x2, but it generally costs ALOT.

    It's something I didn't notice until *after* I ordered.

According to Dell's site, a 2GB stick is ~$210+tax. Who are they trying to kid? Haven't memory prices been coming down in the last year or so?

Buying that ONE extra GB of ram costs the same as buying an entire 2x1GB set of laptop RAM.
