... when you've booted up your lappy and have not started any programmes yet? Poll above. :)

To see how many processes you have running, just click CTRL + ALT + Delete and it should say at the bottom-left of the window.

I, myself, have 25 on. (Hint: let Windows manage WiFi and disable about 5 processes related to the Intel software).

    25 is pretty good. :)

I have a few more because I still have McAffee running -- and I've left Quickset running too. (also MSN Messenger boots when I start as well).

But yes, uninstall pro-wireless utilities and save quiet a few processes (and memory). Also, don't let Quicktime and Realplayer run there processes.

I heard however the "Intel" wifi software is much better then windows handling. That it causes less issues or DC and that it manages it better.. yea it takes a process..
but sigh.. think im used to 60-70 once all my things are loaded for a daily useage.

You can also use "msconfig' and shut off all processes after reboot. i leave just a few MS processes running so not to lose sound when eaking out max frame rates and extra ram for games.

I actually had issues with Intel ProWireless ... Kept dropping connections at home and work.

And, IPW wasn't one process. It was 5 or 6. Really really sucked.

Windows wireless is working much better for me, and I get to save the few processes. :D

    61 Running

1 Very ANNOYING Process ...... It seems to be some kind of a monitor that 'blips' every 3 seconds. By 'Blips', I mean it 'Blips' my arrow into the hour glass for a milli second. Even when the Laptop has been sitting doing NOTHING !

Anyone else get this on a new Insprion?

With all these processes running, how quickly do your notebooks boot up?

Annoying Hourglass pointer .........Dell bloatware was correct.

When they sent the Laptop, there was a Google search box on my taskbar. I deleted it, but a process exe file was in the start-up and was looking for the deleted taskbar feature every 6 seconds.

It took 1.5 hours to find it by process of elimination with the Dell Rep.

Pain in the butt, but it's fixed.

Mcafee is running 7 prosesses, so I downsized their 'Suite' to Virus & Firewall only.

Maybe in a month or 2 I'll reformat. Time to Boot is just OK. I'll time it and post in the future. Maybe that would be another great Poll. Seconds until Taskbar is done loading from the time you push the 'ON' button?

With nothing open and a few startup processes stopped I have 51 processes running and I will time how long it takes to boot up next time I turn it on.

Currently I only have 26 process since I just reformatted with a fresh copy of windows and let me tell the maps in F.E.A.R. Load up faster and run slightly beter since there is less crapware on the notebook. Downside is I have no windows media :( but who cares, I want performance.

I checked the processes today after boot up before opening anything and it showed there were 54 processes running, three more than yesterday?! My laptop has had two clean installs.

In contrast the home desktop had either 24 or 26 processes running at startup.
