I have a 6 month old Dell Inspiron 1420 that I plan on selling. It has windows vista home edition, microsoft office, intel pentium dual - core, web cam built in, anti glare screen, 120 GB hard drive, ac adapter, battery and is in wonderful condition. How much should I ask for? I paid $1,300.

I hate to say it, but you probably won't get even close to what you paid for it.

The market for second hand electronics is really tanking right now. I've gotten to the point that I'm just holding on to a bunch of things that I'd normally sell, simply because I know I don't have a chance of getting what I'd like out of them.

If you want to know what top dollar is for your machine, check eBay. Their prices will be the high end resale value. Around here, you'll get a lot less, but you won't have to deal with the pain in the rear that is eBay.

    **Update**
I just did a quick check on ebay, and some pretty high specced 1420s are going for around 750. It slides down pretty quick from there, down to around 500.

So, that will give you an idea of what they're going for on eBay. Depending on the spec of your machine, I'd guess you'll get somewhere in between 500 and 750.
