I'm interested in buying the 6000, but I'm concerned about the weight. I've seen several different weights from 9.5 lbs, 7.5 lbs, 5.5 lbs.
Which is the correct weight?
Thanks everyone.

Also, what are the official dimensions? I can't seem to find them anywhere.
Thanks again. -

Thanks for the info. On the Canadian site, you can get the same spec web page for some of the notebooks. Of course, I couldn't get to the spec web page for the 6000 so I couldn't get the answers that I needed.
Thanks again. -
its "heavy", but I can reasonablly carry it around with one hand, however a small person would maybe need two.
Because its so big, it doesnt seem as heavy as the specs say. -
A friend of mine has it, and she has no problem taking it to school everyday. There are alot of different bags (booq & kensington are pretty popular) that make it easier to carry the 6000.

Its really not that bad at all, especially for tables..however it may be very difficult to use on a classroom desk-chair thing.
However, hardly any teaachers would allow this to happen and more than likely a notepad and pencil is all that will fit in that area anyawy.
Im a graduate student and I take mine to the bookstore every morning before night school and I love it. (i have a cheap targus nylon breifcase for it, specifically designed for 15.4 notebooks( -
my I6000d with the larger battery weighs 7.5 pounds exactly... without the battery I think 6.5 or so... with bag, ac power brick, external hard drive, wires, and mouse I think the bag weighs in at around 12 pounds or so total.

Thank you everyone for your information. I am currently looking for a notebook for my wife to take to school. We have some specs for the machine that are very important to us, mainly
1) Portability (weight)
2) Warranty - looking for 3 years extended with the complete care package (warranty for drops, spills etc). Anybody have this? This warranty is desired because my son will use the notebook for school after my wife and seeing as how he is 11 years old, we want to try and keep the notebook for awhile.
3) Watching movies on trips.
Based on these 3 criteria, we have come up with a small list of notebooks in no particular order.
1) Dell 6000 (15" widescreen)
2) HP dv1240ca (14" widescreen)
3) Toshiba M40 (15" widescreen)
4) Asus M3V (14" widescreen)
The 700M is too small, the Sony S series are too small as well. A 14" notebook would be the perfect size. Based on what I'm looking for, the HP would be the perfect machine, however, reading the fine print on the warranty, it was revealed that HP will only warranty items once. If the same item goes kaput, then you're SOL, not a good thing IMO. I'm leary of Asus because of the reseller here in Toronto, so it looks like ait's between the Dell and the Toshiba.
I heard that Dell is coming out with a 14" screen soon, is this true?
I have until August/September to make up my mind.
Once again, thanks everyone. -
ugh, i hate warranties
check with your insurance agency to see if they have any coverage for your "laptop spills and drops" then compare that premium to the one your laptop manufacturer offers.
those all seem like good laptops, I've also heard that ASUS is an amazing laptop manufacturer -
MoZirry:
I just checked with my insurance company and they do have separate insurance for a laptop. It has accidental insurance as well. Thanks for the idea.
The price is about $20 less per year than buying from the manufacturer and it has no end period like the manufacturers warranty.
This makes my purchase price a lot less.
How much does the 6000 weigh?
